Does anyone have some good info on Lake Mead I am going to be heading out there in Aug. with a pretty big group, and about 5 boats, here are my questions.
1. Is there a Casino/Hotel out there?
2. Where is the best "Night Life" for a group late 20's early 30's
3. How far is the drive (towing of corse) from central O.C.
4. Does it at times feel like your on "Gilligans Island"?
5. And last but not least is there a sandbar or somewhere on the water that goes off?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

More on this later, but remember, Lake Mead is for adults. Havasu is for others...

In response to 1 and 2, theres nothing in the world like LV which is 30minutes away. From OC its approximately 5 hours unless you leave town after 2 pm then give yourself 7 hours. 4- NO. 5 no sandbars but a few deserted islands.
If you motel/hotel in Boulder City there is gambling at the Hacienda

Is the Hacienda where Gold Strike used to be just before the dam??? Haven't been there in years. I think Gold Strike burned down right???

Las Vegas is 35-45 minutes away, and Boulder City / Henderson is about 15-20 away. Theres the Hacienda which is nice but no where near what the strip has for outtings in the evening.

The Strip, would be the best!!!!

About 5 Hours

It's not Havasu thats for sure!!!! You spend alot of time not seeing very many other boats.

You need to bring your own party with you. Your not going to find one out on Lake Mead. Remember also that the wind comes up in the afternoons, and the basins can get extremely large wind waves, be prepared and it normally calms down towards the evening. If you get lucky you will have a sheet of glass all weekend.

t & b is correct, even at -102 there is a lot of lake, and still plenty of places to go in a houseboat. On our last few trips, we've had severe smooth water, and its up into the low 80's now. This week-end could be interesting, lots of weather around the Southwest. For you newcomers, if you see any black clouds in the afternoon, head for your trailer. Its no place to be if you get caught in the wind. It will be exciting, but it won't be fun...

Is there even still a beach there, with the water level down so low, I would think it is gone.

Actually, theres more beachs than ever. As you remove the water all you have left are beachs. However, some of them are muddy, some are rocky, some have too many clam shells. Also, since boating is down at Lake Mead, the crowds are down. Its actually a great time to go to Mead, there must be 600 miles of shoreline left...

Thanks all for the feedback....it's been over 5 years since we've been on a houseboat there and I'm pretty sure things look quite a bit different :(, just wanted to make sure there was enough water to float the boat :D!

There is plenty of water at Mead! My folks have a place in Boulder City and the lake is quite nice these days. I launch from Hemminway Marina and never have any problems. Of course I have a jet but my dad has a prop and no worries. The Hacienda replaced the Gold Strike as it burned down about 7 or 8 years ago. Hey Hooter Sled-What's up? Do you still live in Torrance? We should get together at the riv some time!

A couple of years ago, Nancy & I couldn't sleep, so she put on a pot of coffee and we sat out on the transom about 3 AM. Not only could we see lots of stars, there are lots of moving things out there! Some are satalites, but over in the NE, lots of mystery lites. Don't know if it was over Nellis or Area 51, but nevertheless, lots in interesting lites. Worth getting up for...

Hooter- What's up? I've been good man. Just busy with work and stuff. I built a new motor for the Hallett and a fresh pump. Had MPD work the pump and built a 501 c.i. BBF. She runs good and so far has hit 78 on gps. I'm up for a late season trip. Let me know. How have you guys been? Hopefully all is well with the family. How is your new boat?

All is good man. The new boat is cool. A little slow. I miss my little 18 footer. I can't complain, the boat is extremely clean for an '89. The Panther sucks though. It might just need to be freshened up. We'll have to get together someday for a beer and check out the boats. I'm down anytime. Let me know. Take it easy.
