View Full Version : The Other Nortech Cat! Wow!!

Just like everyone else who has seen it, I love Bling Blings new
boat. That being stated, I'm delivering a new Conquest Deckboat to a gentleman and his wife from Phoenix 2 weeks ago
and I offer him a ride to make sure that he knows about driving
a tunnel boat etc. He mentions that he has a 29' Force that goes
about 100 mph so he will be OK without the demo ride. Then he
offhandedly mentions that he will be taking delivery of a new 36'
Nortech Cat in a week! He also mentions that it's got 1300hp
engines and has run 172 mph! Of course, I hit him up for the
ride! WOW!
Last Saturday, Candy here at Conquest and I jump in the boat
with 2 others and Byron Ashley and off we go. What a boat!
It planes at 22 mph on GPS. Oh, by the way--there are 3 GPS
on board! Headsets to talk to each other of course! The boat
feels like it is idling at 80 mph. With 5 people in the boat and
full tanks of fuel we were regularly hitting the mid 140's mark
and we had 500 rpm left to go. The most incredible thing about
the boat was it's ability to turn at 120+ mph. We're ripping along and someone decides to cut in front of us. I would have simply
pulled back on the throttles, but Byron knows what the boat is capable of, hits the steering wheel and the boat turns like a
v bottom! Incredible! In addition to being fast, very stable and
incredibly smooth, these Nortechs can maneuver (sp?). There's
a reason that people pay what they do for these boats. If you
look at the thread titled "Bling Bling"--one of the photos shows
the all white Nortech tied up in Florida, if you look to the left you
will see the front end of this one when it was all blue. What's
$40,000 for a new paint job amongst friends!
Frankly, there's only about 600,000 reasons that I don't own
a Nortech cat right now. But what a ride! Thanks Byron for
the ride and thanks Mr. Faulkner for the great sounds in the channel!

WOW, that's sweet!
As much as that would be totally awesome to ride in sometime, it's just not my type of boatin'. And it's a good thing, because it's WAY out of my league too. ;) :D

LMAO...... Keith... were you at Crazyhorse last weekend?? Andy totally said there's Keith when we saw the boat and I said....no that's not him. How funny. What was something wrong with the boat at one point? If you were thereour boat was in the slips in front of the camp sites.... and I was standing on them for a lil while when you were in the boat. If it was you.

And this is what it sounded like...Zoom.. (http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/500/860Dscf0170-1.avi)
At the upper speeds we could never even get the boat into positive trim for the nose lifting..the new one will give us the ability to put some weight in the sponsons by pumping water in...on the fly.....

I met Mr. Ashley in Az, April ***boat gathering @ Pleasant. If this is same guy, very nice guy as is his wife Larry. His 29 called Evil Force, very cool. Apparently does some sand drags Evil Twin racing or something.
We talked a little bus as I was considering moving mine to Az..
Said he has a machine shop, aircrat fasteners maybe?
Nice people , would like a ride in that beauty.

I'm guessing that would be him. I know he has a machine shop. I have a whole crew of sand draggers in my neighborhood and they're all buds. :D

When we spoke in April, he said he was building a new shop and
a new house in Havasu. Maybe that boat will be on the lake regularly? Also said he flys his plane in. He did offer me the opportunity to wire his havasu House. would like to build the new shop, more my specialty.

I hate to ask a stupid question, it's definently an awesome boat, but exactly how does someone climb in and out of that thing at the sandbar or a beach.

welk2party
07-16-2004, 06:51 AM
Just climb in over the bow. Use towels and keep the sand off.

Bre

Jump off.... and lots of muscles to get back on:D
When they pulled back into crazyhorse some people just jumped off from the cockpit area. I'm sure they would have to go to the back of the boat and get up from the swim steps..... if there are any:eek: The front is way too high out of the water to pull up onto if it is sitting in the water. ( I would think )

Bre
07-16-2004, 06:54 AM
The sponsons are just about as tall as I am LOL... if they are beached I guess they would be able to go up the deck of the boat...but if they were floating in water with no beach.... it would have to be the back of the boat.

Yes, that was me at Crazy Horse in the front seat of those photos. We went for a ride then came back and dropped
off Candy, then went over to the Nautical Inn and picked up
the sons of Wayne Minor. We went around the island, over by the Windsor launch ramps back to the Nautical to drop off the
kids and then back to Crazy Horse. I got out then and he took
his grandkids for a ride. I missed the trailering thing!
Yes, Mr. Ashley does have a machine shop in Phoenix area and
does alot of work for Nasa and airline manfs. and stuff like that.
Sorry I missed you guys. Would have like to have met you all.
The boat had a starter acting up. That's what we were working
on. Got it fixed!
Didn't mention it before but the weirdest thing was at about
145 mph when pulling back the throttle to slow down, it would
actually accelerate for a few seconds before it slowed. Wild!
Incredible ride.

Jimmy's 29' DCB does the same thing.
I think it has something to do with the stern lift from the props stopping...

Hey that boat looks familiar. I haven't seen it in a couple of monthes.
