One of our favorite lakes is Posseum Kingdon State Park. (we saw deer and skunks and water snakes there)
Do you ever go out to Cado Lake (Louisiana)?

It's all good, the river here is fine. That's where all the no teeth
river tramps hang.
It's a better place to be.:)

As long as you can launch your boat you'll be all right.
It's not that bad yet, give it another month or two.;)

Folsom is one of those lakes that sees lots of extremes. In the winter, the damn thing fills so fast they are showing pictures of it with open spillways in Feb., and it is a dustbowl in July. I like the idea of raising it 7 feet, but we need to get a better handle on managing the water we have. You would think that with the numerous snow-surveys that are done in the winter and spring, they could avoid this, or better manage it.
I seem to remember that during the last low-rainfall period, the experts were saying that Shasta would take 3 years to fill.
That winter, it spilled.
I was/am a fan of the long-argued Auiburn dam, but if this is the way it was going to be managed, what the hell is the point?
I had this conversation with a guy that is in the water bus. for the state, and he reminded me that the resivoir system is not primarily designed to accomadate us boaters (duh) but to provide water for ag and residential users in the valley and socal.
Bottom line is that the population in the west is skyrocketing, and nothing is being done to create more water storage or water sources for those people.
In the case of Powell, the eco-socialists even go so far as to demand that we eliminate a source that is just about paid for.
This water thing in the west is going to be a major issue in years to come. Contracts for delivery based upon out-of-date population numbers and low-demand are going to have to be re-negotiated.

I think I should sell my boat and buy a few sand rails.

Well put. I always was for Auburn dam. But that's done, it won't
happen. Not in our life time.
Except for when we had the drought years it seemed Folsom was always full.
I used to boat there year round. I don't even hardly go there any
more. If at all.
It's too bad. That's a nice lake when it has water in it.

That's a good idea. Then we'll all be posting on Sandrails.com.
You know another thing. They wont let you 4wd on that dirt
when the lake is empty. It ruins the enviroment.
Talk about a missed opportunity. You no how much lost
revenue they could recover if they made that an off road park
when it's empty.

Right now all of our lakes are 2' - 6' up. 5 very nice lakes within 45 minutes of driving. Beaches are under water and the debris from the woods washed in.
Such an extreme difference of boating environments. Interesting.

Actually my comment about boating environments was in general.
I have always noticed that a lot of lakes out west are brown desert banks while ours are green trees.
Few launch ramps in a lot of lakes out there and a ramp every mile or two on the water out here.
Neither difference better or worse. Just different.

Ours is in the trees too. Just the year that it drained almost to nothing (we had water restrictions big time that year) it did look like a motocross track or something. It is in the Sierra foothills with lots of Oak Trees and stuff.
Here is a pic in a more happy wet time...http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/1152folsom.gif
Here's another picture from a low water time, but you get the view of the trees beyond...http://www.parks.ca.gov/pages/500/images/IMG_2586.jpg

I'm kind of tired right now and I was going to post the story later.
But since you asked.
I FOUND IT! That's right Quote "I" found it.
I thought about it all afternoon, and I thought what would I do
if I was a young punk taking cars in the middle of the day?
I figured he-they wouldn't go far. So after getting off from work
I drove around looking in vacant lots in the area where the car
was stolen from.
After about an hour and a have of driving around I was about to
give up. Then I thought:idea: what about the near by bowling
alley? So I pulled in the parking lot, and nothing.:frown:
So I took a short cut behind a Smart & Final and to my amazement
there it was. I thought no way, what's the odds. So the first thing
I look at is the trunk where her purse was. It was untouched.
I popped the trunk and there was her purse. Credit cards ID and
all. I couldn't believe it!
They punks ransacked the inside of her car, took the cigeratte
lighter, took my little boys fake wallet, took her work filing box.
and that was about it.
So I called the CHP 'cops' and they cleared the car and released
it to us. IN ONE PIECE!
I couldn't believe it. The cops said that was a smart move. It could
have sat there for weeks before anyone realized it.
I still can't believe I found it! What's the odds.

No gators.
Plenty of snakes though.
I have seen pics of folks out west hanging out in a back cove around tall weeds, standing in the water. First thought I had was, SNAKES !!
My son had a rubber snake that looked very real. I used to take it to the island and just put it at the edge of the woods in front of where we beached.
Interesting drunk dances sometimes when it was spotted. :D

They say Folsom lake is 50% full or empty however you see it.
So they were asking boaters if they were going to use the lake.
Most of them said no because they were afraid of damaging their
boats.
This could be good. We could head out there and have the lake
to ourselves.
What's left of it.

Well on the 4th of July weekend it was still decent... just too many folks enjoying ithttp://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/500/1152MVC-370F-med.JPG
So maybe if more think it is really low and they might damage their boats... it will be decent out there!

One year a buddy of mine hit something when it was low.
Jammed his shaft strut up through the bottom of the boat and
torn his rudder off.
That year I didn't go back out there.
