msrp $5499 new, $5K seems a little steep used. I am looking for an enduro bike though. I think I'm going KTM.

Go KLR 650.
For less than $3k (used) you can have a bike you can ride from North Pole, Alaska to the tip of South America and everywhere in between.
Plus, with Aerostich tank panniers you can carry 10 Bud Light 24 oz cans on ice...
A man's gotta have his priorites....
Thanks
CA Stu
PS they're chick magnets, too ;)

KLRs are cool but I'm looking for a little more off-road designed. The KLR reminds me of a XR650L where the XR650R is more off-road oriented. I'm thinking one of the KTM 500-ish bikes would be good to thow around a little and still be streetable if necessary.

Oh Grasshoppah.... I checked into a KTM 525 and got quoted over $8500 new from Malcolm Smith's in Riverside. After I shat (now there's a word we don't hear enough) myself, I bought a used 01 XR650R with a Baja Design Dual Sport kit and all the goodies (seat foam, hop up kit, hot start kit, bars, trick suspension, etc.,etc., for $4100.
That thing just sits in my shop with maybe 2k miles on it, however, and I have 2 KLR 650's with a combined total of over 30k miles on them.
You get funny looks riding a KLR up some ****ed up singletrack, and putting on the turn signals at the intersections in the middle of nowhere...
Plus, you can ride for about 280 miles without gassing up. Which comes in handy on Saline Valley road.
Or in Sandy Valley, NV.
Or on the White Rim Trail in Moab.
Cheers
CA Stu
PS "Sits 20 inches off the ground with a custom plate,
Says I E A T, DRZ!"
PPS Apologies to Sammy Hagar

The XR650R with the BD kit is a nice set-up. Just a little heavy for my taste. The used KTMs are about 5k if you shop around. Way more bike than the zuki 400. I never really considered the KLR. How does it compare to a XR650L?
