View Full Version : 20" Tire Recommendations?

My 20" tires are about down to the wear bars and I'll be needing new shoes on my truck. Currently I'm running 305/50 Kumhos (Koo-mos'). They've been pretty good tires, I got 30,000 miles on them, but they've gotten kind of noisey the last 10,000 miles.
What kind of tires are you guys running? Good or bad? Quiet or noisey? Good treadwear? Are there any tires that you'd recommend or to stay away from?
Thanks for your input,
GB

I'm thinking the Hankook or Sumitomos. Have any of you guys tried these tires?

I had Falkens on my 20s they did last me a while... dont know exact but more then 30k for sure, but each one wore different(??)
I'm running those Kumhos now on my 24s man I hope they last me(seem harder). Have you looked into BFG? Those Eagles were suppose to be good for their price(inexpensive).

The BFGs seem to be a little soft and priced more than the others. So they'll stick real good, but wear out quickly.

I've ran Hankooks on my 3/4 ton GMC (granted they are 16" all terrains) and had very good luck, I would recommend them as a brand. I don't have any experience with their 20" tires though.

I had Goodyear Eagle gtII's on my expedition 36k and now they are on my neighbors expedition w/ plenty of tread left. stay away form pirelli scorpions those wear so fast. I have them on my tahoe right now (22s) and I can almost see them wear by the day.:(

I have been thinking of putting 20's on my excursion. How do they hold up to the wieght of it? With all the problems with
firestone and the explorers makes me a little nervous if they are not rated for the load.

20s will look way too small on an Excursion. Go with a 22 or 24. Make sure the wheel you buy is for a SUV not a car rim that was drilled to fit your truck. All rims have a weight limit on the inside of them.

I have 20" Goodyear Eagle GTIIs on my Yukon XL 4X4 and have a great ride with very little noise. We had 18" FALKENS and they lasted only 20K miles and IMO were overloaded for that size of vehicle.
I would recommend to stay away from Uni-Directional tires since they wear out faster and tend to GRAB onto different level pavements.

bottom line goodyear wil prob wear the best but all have a soft compund, and seing 30,000 miles is at best a gift!! the tires are mant for tration, performance adn handling....so 20-25,000 is thea average no matter what the brand! we sell, hankook, toyo, goodyear, kelly, yokohama, dunlop t oname a few....goodyear is th eonly line to consistienly come close to 30,000!:D

I had 17" Falkens on my other truck, damn those were some noisey ass tires. It looks like I was lucky to get the 30k on my Kumhos. I'm not real wild about the Goodyears, but if they stay quiet and last longer than the other tires, I guess it's money well spent.
Thanks for all your input.
