Looking for some tips on some "non-chain" family type places to eat in NW Phoenix. How about a mom and pop pizza place with one of a kind pizza or hole-in-the-wall burrito joint etc. Back home Rosa Marias or Juanitas had some pretty good burritos and The Deli at Lake Arrowhead had some good pizza. What are your local favs?
Thanks,
OL

Macayo's won't even let you in the door if they know your affiliated with HB. ;) :D Thee Pitts BBQ is awesome. If you like Japanese try AH-SO they are located at 75 ave & Bell and also at around 60 ave & Bell. AH-SO has teppan (sp?) tables and also great sushi.

My Favorite--I need stock in that place :D
The Pitts Again-- great food and really gaining popularity--glad to see it.
Bamboo Grill (not Bamboo Club)--locally owned, like a little PFChangs--good stuff-- AMC 30 at L101 and I17--actually they have one at 83rd and DV, and 67th and Happy Valley I think.

Thanks for all the tips. Took the family to Pitts and had some tasty BBQ sands. Place was almost empty on Sunday afternoon. Is it new?

There is an Ajo Al's out there now, just east of the mall on the NE corner of bell and 75th or something like that. Really good mexican food. We have one over here at 16th Street and Camelback. :D

We saw that place. We were trying to figure out how to pronounce it. Kinda sounds like A-hole Als:D . Thanks for the tip, we'll give it a try.

Best Italian food I've had in the Valley is Romano's Macaroni Grill. It IS kind of a chain place, but still the best.
And that's coming from someone who's grandmother came over on the boat from Naples.

Carraba's is good too for Italian.

good Mexican food (for Phoenix) - not exactly northwest side!
Via de la Santos at SW corner of Central Ave and Mission Ln., just north of Dunlap.
This place is the hole in the wall that you asked about. If you rate Mexican by the different types of tequila they serve then this place wins hands down!:D :D

One of the better places to have seafood is the Salt Cellar. It has to be good it's in Scottdale. ;) :D But really the food is great, and the restaurant is underground. Kinda cool.
