Floating at the lake the other day I ran into this problem. My boat sits out of the water at one level and two other friends boats on either side of me at diff. levels. The only way to float and hangout was to sit on the edge of the boats with our feet out holding on. So what does everyone do? Thanks.

Personally I purchased really big (and I mean big) bouies..
That way even at different heights etc... usually one of the bouies is holding hte boats far enough apart that it doesn't matter.
As far as the feet thing.. That's usually the best way to go if your floating down the middle of a river anyways. Just tie a rope in between where your feet are holding his boat off and put a beer in one hand and the rope in the other. ;)

My buddyhas a set of these things that have industrial suction cups on each end and a pole in the middle. You put one suction cup on each boat and it keeps them spaced apart.

You will be OUI if you are the boat operator in this case.

They just don't seem to fit the KISS principle... do they?

They work great, The surface has to be smooth and we usually put them on the hull not the deck. It took some experimenting at first. the one down side is they leave a black spot where the suction cup goes.

Well then throw out an anchor and your no longer OUI (not underway)

Put at least two, preferably three of these (8" X 20" size) between each boat. The make sure each boat is tied very tightly to the boat next to it. This will keep them from bumping against each other, and if waves rock the boat, they rock at the same time, again keeping them from crashing into each other. I've done it this way for many years and have never had a gelcoat ding.

I'm with RD. Get really big fenders. They've always worked for me.
