Alright, going on a limb here and setting it up for Saturday, August 21st.--YES THE DATE WAS CHANGED TO 8-21-04
Same deal....8AM at the buoys out side the gas station at Katherines Landing. For those of you wanting to launch at Cottonwood we can stop by and pick you up there. Willow beach same situation. Bring kids if you want or don't. remember to launch at 7A and you will beat the traffic at the docks. Wait till 8 and you will be late.
After the dam run we all head to Gasoline Ally and take it over. We will all fit...just be a little cozy is all :) Stay there till the sun goes down. This is where if you have small children you may not want to participate in this activity.
Lets get it rolling people and triple it to about 45 boats......

OK....I think we need to change it to 8-21-04 based on this post in an earlier thread. Everybody OK with this date?
I forgot who posted this but here it is:
To summarize, yes, from after Labor day until Memorial day, no powered boat greater than 65 hp can go north of Willow Beach. This blows, I know. I was just there (last week) and was shocked. The signs appear to be fairly new, so I'm not sure when the exact implemenation date was.
Last time I was there (Sept 2003) it was old school, i.e. no restrictions.
Bottom line:
Year round
Sundays & Mondays non powered boats only.
Between Memorial day and Labor day (i.e. summer)
Tuesday - Saturday any boat
Between Labor day and Memorial day (i.e. winter)
Tuesday - Saturday boats up to 65 hp
Not sure of a simpler way to break it down. Took me about 18 reads of the new rules and legal consultation to figure it out.

worked out fine for me, I'm guessing they were ok...
That was at 50-55.
Maybe I should throttle back, and put the tabs down as we pass them this time. About 18 mph, should make a nice tsunami for them to navigate :eek:

its 63 miles each way... ihave an 80 gal tank 496ho motor and made it there and back to katherines landing last weekdn with stil over quarter tank left!!

There is also gas on the lake 20 miles and ~35miles up. Everyone waited very patiently (cl) while we gassed up. We launched from Cottonwood so our trip was only 40 miles each way, turns out we didn't even need the gas.

seriously, goin up between 50-60 pmh no less than 50! a couple of times hit 70 mph for a split second! coming back DHO and i ran up front between 60pmh to 71mph all the way back!:rolleyes: We left everyone....and he left me a couple of times hitting upper 70's!
probably close to 64 -65 on avg coming back! water conditions were fantastic!;) stopped two times goin up to kick back for a while...swim etcf...and only once coming back at cottonwood for bite to eat!:p

That is a really good average. I think mid 60's would be about as fast as I would want to go for a real long distance like that. I don't think we have had our boat above 65 for more than maybe a mile or 2 at the most. The 2 kids do not like anything above about 40. If we can make it that would be a good reason to leave them at home.

We averaged 50-55mph. We still had a great time. For 2 legs we had a couple go fasts behind us running sweep. Then we left out of Willow a minute or so ahead of the crowd, it was awesome to watch them overtake us at speed!
Seriously speed doesn't matter, everyone stopped every 20-25 min to let everyone catch up (cl, pee) talk, bs etc. We never totally lost sight of everyone.
Our little boat doesn't handle the chop so well, we would probably back down quite a bit even if we could do 70 just to stay out of the chop.

Rob - Don't sweat it. We had a nice pace going. Boats that wanted to run faster went up front and did it. Those that didn't, hung in the back and enjoyed the scenery. We all stopped together and hung out at a few spots on the way up. This was between Katherine's and the entrance to the gorge. Once we hit the gorge, we slowed down quite a bit so we could all enjoy the scenery. I'm not good in estimating distances, but image going through the Topock gorge...for about 10 miles!!! Sweet.
We got separated on the way back. We won't do that next time ;) We'll want to keep the party going all day.

Tom,
The RiverForUs clan will be out there for a 4-day weekend covering that Saturday. The only downside is that there may be 15 (8 adults/7 kids) of us with one boat and 2 PWC's. I'll either pile them all in or see if some of them want to "volunteer" to stay back on the beach with the Sea Doo's. If the numbers don't work out (I've had 13 in the boat before--not sure if I can make 15 fit) I'll certainly see everyone in GA.
Either way you can count me in on making the BBQ at your house Saturday night!! :D :D

Just got back from the SW regatta and I see all these people signed up :). Keep it rolling.
The regatta was a lot of fun and I got to see a lot of people again and also for the first time. Also won $900. on the poker hand :). I won't hijack my on thread though.....I will start another one about the regatta.

Next year I say we have a couple of em. One in the spring and one in the fall. Low maintenance get togethers to boat with others that have a common interest.

Myself, I will be at my house which at this point is going to be totally full. I am expecting the same turnout on my end as it will be for OP6 out at Mohave. I plan on being in GA until the sun goes down and after that maybe stop at the bar behind the restaraunt for a night cap. After that I am sure I will be toasted and ready for bed :)

We've stayed at Riverside, Edgewater, Colorado Belle, Harrah's and now Avi. All have boat parking.
This time we will be at Riverside, North tower overlooks the boat parking, they also have a ramp into the river, but that's not for you big boys.
All of the hotels are under 45 during the week and under 75 on weekends, you can't lose.
All you big boats are fine going out of Katherine's. I'll be with the small shooters going out of Cottonwood. It's a beautiful run on smooth water from there, and under an hour from Laughlin. We'll be on the water sooner than if we went to Katherine's.

Mike we've camped in the boat in a couple different coves just outside Katherine's landing. There are lots of areas you can boat camp on mohave....
Katherine's and Cottonwood also have hotel rooms.

Question for you Mohave locals.......The better half is not yet comfortable backing down the trailer so I'm left doing it myself. The question is, which place (cottonwood/katherines) is better to launch, keeping in mind at the end of the day I will have to tie up to a dock, run up get the trailer, un tie and load it up. Any input

I am sure some of us here can help you out when you are ready to pull the boat out. You can launch either place, however if you get to Katherines around 7AM no biggie. if you wait till 8 it will be much busier. I launch/retrieve at Katherines all the time by myself, however I do try to avoid the peak hours. When you are taking it out in the late afternoon it is pretty busy.
I keep my boat in the water in a slip so I could help you out myself by backing the trailer down for you if you want to launch at Katherines. You go get the truck, get in line and I will keep an eye out for you. Once you get close I will take it from there. You can tie your boat up over by the store so you are away from the idiots at the launch.

I'm in the same "boat" Backer/Driver. We always launch at telephone cove. No dock though, She "holds" the boat while I get the truck.

hd is right katherines is no biggie!! get ther by 7 a.m. though ...and when you launch i back my trailer down until the tires are in the water...then get in the boat fire up....then the mrs will back me down just anouther 5 feet or so straight so there can be non probs!
at the end of the day is anther story...she goes get the truck and backs it down etc with no probs! in your situation...i did this a few weeks ago...when solo, tied up in a lsip for 15 min while i got the truck and backed down....then put boa tfrom slip to trailer took all of 5 minutes no big deal!
i would say this might only be a problem if you get of 6 or 7 p.m. when its really busy with poeple gettin touchy and would bhave to wqait for you!! but earlier or later at night no probs!!
i also dont mind helping ya out ...dont sweat it...ill be launching at 7 a.m. shhhhaaarrrp! at katherines from Edgewater in laughlin!;)

I knew my SW brotherin would come through. Ya Frenchie, getting it in is no problem, she can pull the trailer out and park it, but backing down is another story. She's just not there yet. I havnt been up to Mohave for a few years and have heard the ramp gets busy late in the day, and god forbid I would have to make someone wait an extra 5 minutes ;).

If I make it up, I will launch out of Cottonwood. Only 40 minute drive and NO stress ramp. I think someone else is going up that way too.

8:30 is fine, we might be waiting a few for them (with this big a crowd). Last time they got to us at CW after 9. But you want to be in the water waiting! To see all these big boys coming up the lake at you still gives me hard nipples thinking about it (did I say that out loud?). You wouldn't want to be much later than 8:30.
THere will be a handful of us out of CW, this will really be a blast!

Was able to bail on my previous plans so I'm good to go. Just booked my room at Edgewater. Sweet talked the nice little lady into a riverview room for 2 nights, including two prime rib dinners per night and two breakfast per morning for the wopping price of $65 per night. Not bad considering I'm not a "whale" like Frenchie and get all my s h i t comp. Looks like we'll be rollin up to Havasu on thurs/fri then up to Edgewater on friday night. Look forward to boatin w/you all. BTW Frenchie, I changed your reservation to a smoking room with twin beds, next to the laundry shoot. That way you and the Mrs wont be extending any energy friday night and wont miss the 3am wake up call :rolleyes:
