OK, who's got the scoop on this deal?
Who was it and what kind of flat was it?

The boat that did 157mph at Bridge to Bridge in Old Sacramento was not a flat bottom. The boat was a blown alcohol hydro. The name is the NIGHTHAWK. Owned and driven by Dave Kiker.

Hell, I thought you had the Mopar built and found some alcohol along with some help from Jim Anderson. :)

So Supercrew, I have no idea how long the dam to dam thing is.
Did he leg it out the entire way or did he just stab it 1/4 or so from the end?
How bad ass would a mile or so long pass be! lol Even 1/2 mile would seem forever.
What ever he did there had to have been a good chance for some nasty rollers. Guy's got some sack I'd say.

K-flat congrats on the record run. I didn't realize the old Mopar carb motor had it in her. Nice job. Better get a chute.

I could have a blown injected hemi and I would still get beat by a naturally aspirated chevy. You guys drinking already?:D
Not to mention I was at lake oroville. Raided my freezer and what drinks I had in the fridge and went. It still cost me a 100+ for the trip to the emergency room friday night. Nothing like running a bread knife through the length of your finger.:frown:

It was not the K-flat that made that run!!!!! It was #567 Nighthawk - Blown Alcohol Hydro.
Made the 157mph bridge to bridge run at 1:30 Saturday in Old Sacramento.
The Nighthawk is owned and driven by Dave Kiker....Redding, Ca

Did he win the deal with that pass? Or did some Nortech, Skater or whatever take the win?
It would be so sweet to see all those High Buck rigs get shut down by an old hydro.

There was not an actual win......the event was more a Show 'N
Shine. But he did set a new record on the river with the 157mph.
It was a sweet, smooth run......Totally awesome.

Dmontszta, there was a time when capsules were not required. back in the day, my friend Gerry did 187mph in a hydro...no capsule.
He also lost three racer friends in two months (and immediately quite racing); capsules became part of the deal.
If you look closely at the boat above, it is indeed blown and injected and safety gear and even a parachute, etc. That ain't no lakeboat.:)

To me it is a lake boat :) anything that fast with no capsule you would not catch me in it. :)

A lotta guys ran big numbers in the 80's with no capsules in a lot of different classes. A lot of em didn't come home from the races too.

Personally anything over 100-110 is too fast for me without a capsule. :)

I am not sure of the speed that Eddie Hill ran, but in 1983 Eddie
Hill ran against the Nighthawk in the world finals in Arizona. The
Nighthawk pulled off the win, which was quite an upset.

Eddie Hill ran 229 mph @ Chowchilla, Ca and that record stood for quite some time. The capsule boats weighed more and it took awhile to catch back up. Anything quicker than 7.70 has to have a capsule in IHBA. NJBA doesn't have a minimum yet, I think. With a hydro 8,s @ 140-145 is about as quick as you can be w/o capsule.

September 5, 1982. Chowchilla. 229mph and change blowin' in the breeze.

That is all very true. I was talking those speeds in 1983.
Greg Artz drove the boat at that time. Right
now those speeds require a capsule. The Nighthawk is a blown
alcohol 8 second boat right now.
