You know why there isn't any water in Folsom Lake?
Go to the Sacramento River. It's full to the brim.
Their dumping all the water from the lakes for the Salmon run.
Most of the beaches are under water and it's knocking all the
debris loose frome the shore line. Makes for some scary boating.
And skiing. I broke my jaw out there about 8 years ago.
I don't need to do that again!

I was just at the launch ramp this morning... in Long Beach. I haven't been home since the 4th of July weekend and probably won't be for another month or so...

I really couldn't believe how much water there was in the river.
It's like the rainy season.
I guess we just don't understand how the fish feel.

And of course flows like that would be normal for August w/o the dams... right? Sometimes I just wonder where common sense has gone. Down the river in this case, I believe.

And the environmentalist want to remove Dams to restore the
rivers to there natural habitat so the fish can spawn.
You know they have Lake Englebright on that list?
There seriously thinking about removing the dam.

what would the water flow in the river be right now with no dam ,
prolly not as much as it is now...it looks like they're letting out a lot more than is flowing in..
just checked the numbers...incoming 1,338cfs outgoing2,692cfs
good news, no speed limit on folsom 200 feet from shore:D
bad news, that doesn't leave much area with this level drop
:(

How do these people get these jobs?
And who gives them the power to make decisions?
And who are the poeple (environmentalist) that knock on their
doors and convince them the fish need more water?
Is it the department on fish and game? or Sea World?
I have many questions.

I do all my boating on the Sacramento (including yesterday) and I agree the river is too high for this time of year. Usually it goes up about 1 ft or so for the Salmon runs but it has been up about 3 ft over its normal for this time of year at least for the last month. I fish out there and this year has been about the worst. Here is the current level at the I Street bridge. http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/cnrfc/graphical_rvf/sacc1.html

someone probably forgot to close back the valve at the dam before he went on vacation ...
however, the salmon bite is on at bodega. caught limits two weeks ago...
maybe the salmon are waiting for the river flow to back off before they come up.. ;)

Gotta remember that there are dams upstream that feed the American River above Folsom. I bet w/o any dams releasing water the flow would be more like a small creek than a river this time of year.
The important one to look at is Shasta. I bet they are letting a lot of water out to raise the river that much. And this time of year there's usually between 1-2,000 CFS coming in. I bet they are letting out over 7K...

No, I didn't go out yesterday either. I just walked over to the ramp from Sportsmart to see how it looked. I haven't been there for a while... (25 years or so). I don't know that I'd put my trailer in the salt water being an ungalvanized tube trailer. Not so worried about the boat... a good flush and spritz it'd be fine.
