Pros and cons. I found one and am checking into it. The Advantage is as fast as I'm going to make it, so now it's the family boat, and I'm building something with some HP. Were the Cyclones full stringer boats? Was the Cyclone a 18 or 19? Details are a slow in coming from the owner, so I'm trying t get an idea if this'll do what I want.

I believe they were 18' and well built, like all Rogers.
I recall them having a fairly deep V to the entry, so that may not be your best choice for high speeds. They can tend to hook a violent turn when settling down after a high speed run.
Check with Cyclone on the boards, I believe he had one before his current red ride.

I'm pretty sure the Cyclone is an 18(I have a houseboat friend who has one). I've never seen a Roger's without full stringers.
A while back, Oldrigger posted that Roger considered the 18 bubbledeck his fastest hull(and the 19 bubble a close second  ). In fact he was looking for one for himself at the time. So, if your looking for the fastest Roger's bottom, that might not be the one.
But all of Roger's hulls make nice lake boats, in my purely unbiased opinion! :D

My Advantage is basically a 18' Rogers bubbledeck with an E pump. I'm looking for something with less V, and less bow entry. I'm still going to check it out.... I haven't found my Hondo yet!

yeah the cylcone is not going to be a fast one due to the deep entry. i would look at the 19 or 18 bubble;)

rogers hulls:
18 rogers bonneville
18 rogers bonneville TR ( from what ive been to;d there are'nt many of these)
18 cyclone (cyclones old orange boat)
18 super cyclone (boater bills boat
*note*
the only difference between the cyclone and the super cyclone is the hull,... the super cyclone has the same bottom as the 18 bonneville were as the cyclone has a bottom with a whole lotta rocker, i believe that wallygator has this same hull as well, all of the cyclones have the same cap!
My opinion as to why the bonnevilles ar used as more of a performance hull... the deck is much smaller that the cyclones, the cockpit is much smaller on a bonneville, wich ( to me) makes me believe it would be quite a bit easier to "blow it back on the plate"
or air it out.
either way, all rogers are great "EVERYTHING" boats!
just my .02
this is just what ive been told, might not be true but i know its close.:D

Whats the difference between the Bonneville and Bonn. TR?

itrs my belief that the bonneville TR is the 19. (my buisness partner has one). i think the TR had something to do with the larger chines that the 19 has compared to the 18 bonneville. after comparing my 18 bonneville to his 19 bonneville TR , i came up with basically the same hull except for the larger chines and about 11 or 12 inches longer that seems to basically be stretched from just behind the driver and front passenger seat. the cyclone was an earlier hull that as mentioned here allready, has a deeper V , and a differant deck all together. for a lake/river boat i like the cyclone, but would not recomend it to you roost, especially since your looking for higher speeds. your Advantage is actually a faster hull. and can handle faster speeds. are you sure your hull is an 18' ? Advantage has the 19' mold from roger. the 18 is in hiding. (god i hope it comes back out). more bonnevilles have popped up for sale in the past year, so if your looking for speed, hold out for an 18 or 19 bonneville, or stick with your first intention and find the hondo.

The one I'm looking at is a 1970, and I don't have measurement on the length yet. You might be right Victor..... I want less V and bow entry, so I might pass on this one. I've been looking for a hull similar to my old Tahiti Tiger, but full stringer. I loved the way that boat rode. I could never put that much power to it because of the stringers, and it had one hellacious hook.
The search goes on........

Correct me if I'm wrong but the 19 bonneville TR was like an air entrapment hull with longer outside chines like my bubbledeck.

But I've been wrong once before.Just once.but I was wrong.

I think you're right 460. Mine is a 19 BV TR too. I didn't think the 18 BV had the drop chines.
I'm thinking cyclone made a typo up above, because if Im not mistaken, his is a 19 also.
I'd recommend the 19 to anyone looking for a lake blaster!
I've had a chance to take mine out a few times since finishing it. It's nice riding boat. It is alot more roomy than my old Caribbean. Lots of under the deck stowage and more space between the back seats.
Mine's a little light of a lay-up for family lake use. You have to walk across the deck carefully(and not the bubble at all! I almost went right through it first time out!). And the dash gets to bouncing pretty good in the rough stuff(I'm planning on some struts from the stringers to behind the dash to help that). But overall, it's a great boat. It ran 80 mph first time out. I still have alot of set-up adjusting to do(I left the ride plate and shoe where they were originally set in 1980), and some power to add. So it should be a decent runner!
Sorry, I just got carried away... :)

i am lmost 100% poss. that there is an 18 bonneville TR, one of my pop's buddies claims to have had one on the parker strip ( he also has a house in the keys), it was red and grey with a blown chevy something in it! his name is Bill Staska. i dont think he has it anymore though!

Get the Hondo, its the same bottom as the Southwind, as we all know, Southwinds are the best hulls!! :D :p ;)

18 super cyclone
Jim Brock has one of these of hulls on a trailer with S.S. fuel tanks that has never been rigged for sale. give him a call and he can give you the details. I dont think he wants very much for whole deal.

I went out and measured mine last night. It came to 18'-8" from bow to stern. The tame went over the engine, but mine doesn't sit too hight. Here is also a picture of the stern. So, this should be a Bonn. TR also.

I was under the wrong impression(18 BV=no drop chines). No wonder Roger was looking for an 18.
So, is Cyclone's an 18 or a 19?
I missed out on your Roger's hitch covers Roost :( . I don't even have a receiver hitch, but it would have made a nice garage ornament until I got one! You gonna do another run in the future?

I'd like to make another Rogers run. If there are other Rogers owners that would also like one, email me, or post here so I can see if the demand justifies another run. Southwind may be the next addition to the hitch cover line.

Todd is correct. my red boat is a 19' Bonneville TR (TR designating the hull with the dropped outer chines ie wannabe tunnel.)
My last boat, the orange and white one, was a 1971 Cyclone. Most likely the boat Roostwear is looking at will be a standard Cyclone since it's a 1970 hull. I dont believe Roger had built the Super Cyclone hull for another two years and the Bonneville's didn't appear until 1973 I think.
As for high speeds, I dont think going over 80 mph in a Cyclone would be too fun when trying to shut down. That hull has a very deep entry and handles rough water great, but it bow steers something fierce and rides pretty wet. Airing one out yields a pretty sketchy ride. I tried a droop on my Cyclone and it the hull wasn't real happy with it.
Roostwear- hold out for an 18 or 19' Bonneville or Super Cyclone if your looking to go fast.

Mike, it's all relative. I'm looking to go fast, but my point of reference is my current ride. If I can build a boat to hit 80, that's fast (compared to the 68 I'm used to).

there are a few other sites i go to, but i think hot boat has a porn blocker so i cannot post a link. oh wait, you mean boat sites dont you? oops. :) actually a rogers custom boats web site would be cool, but i dont think there is one. heck, i cant even find a rogers emblem for my boat. i heard roger wieman gave a box of emblems to the guy that bought the 18' mold and hasnt done anything with either one. sure wish i could get ahold of either roger himself, or the guy that bought the molds. does anyone know how to get ahold of roger wieman?

Vic, you might try PM'ing oldrigger. A while back, I think he posted that he ran into Roger in AZ somewhere near Havasau. If it wasn't OR, it was someone on this board.
I'd like to have a couple more emblems too. I'd like to put them on the sides, like Moose's boat has them.

ive talked to OldRigger about it allready. he was the one that told me roger gave a large box of emblems to the guy that bought the 18' mold. (and one other mold i think aswell). ive heard Roger has been seen in the Havasu area, but nothing confirmed. it would be way cool if he showed up at the CBBB. id love to get a pic of him in my boat and have him sighn it. i keep a small bottle of paint with me just in case i ever hook up with him. knowing my luck, ill probably be talking to him on a beach somewere and never know it.
