considering a trip here with the family later this season and was curious if anyone could recommend some cabins to stay in. We will have a 19' jet and a 23' outboard boat and would like somewhere we could launch. I have heard it is a beautiful lake and look forward to vacationing there. Any suggestions? oh yeah good restaraunts would be good to know also. Thanks

Are you going to Garry Snow's BBQ? It is a blast.
We stayed at some cabins close to Plowman's last time we went. Not fancy but did the job.

It was the first weekend in October last year. There is a wide creek inlet at the State Park campground that is big enough for some friendly speed contests. ;)
We had a bit of trouble with the Corps of Engineers last year over supposed misbehavior, so I'm not sure about noise regs. It is sorta in the boonies at the North end of the lake. All the marinas are at the other end of the lake.

It is the same weekend every year.
Weekend after the Smokin in the cove drag race in Arkansas.
I had my Cougar out there with zoomies year before last.
The corp is more concerned with 4 wheelers in the park that what happens on the water.
Noise on a normal weekend?
Come out here if you want to blast around and not worry about noise.

Info, was that your red picklefork at the Indian Lodge? I parked my flattie next to it overnights and talked to the owner a bit.
SHAKE-YO-AZZ, you gonna tow all the way to Texas? Sounds like a great idea. After all, next week I'm goin' to Laughlin for CBBB. Just a lil' 1100 mile jaunt.

I emailed the snowman about this year's event and this was his reply, thought I would share it with you guys:
Due to idiots last year, I received a nasty letter from the Corp of Engineers. That was the first time I ever had any problem after 15 years of having this event. I'll put it this way, I'm not organizing anything this year, but several friends and myself will be there camping. I will not be responsible for anyone but myself. We will be down there on the first weekend of October. The place is Plowman's Creek Park on Lake Whitney. It is very near the little town of Kopperl, about 5 miles from my house and shop. Hope you can make it down. I haven't been on Hot Boat in months. If you like, copy this email on the forums. You might pass on also that park rules will be enforced, so everyone act like they have good sense. In 15 years we have only seen a Game Warden there a couple of times. Later..............
Garry
P.S.... A lot of people stay at Indian Lodge resort which is just 3 or 4 miles from the park. They also have a boat ramp and the park can be reached from there with just a few minutes boat ride. The phone number is 254-889-3643, Tim or Barb, very nice folks and good friends of ours. I would recommend making reservations ASAP, as accommodations will go fast. We won't be cooking this year. It will be nice to see everyone again, but I'll just be down there camping.
what a shame:frown:

There were around 150 boaters camped there, and one group was drunk and stupid, guys flashing women with their little dicks, stuff like that.
The people camped next to them weren't boaters, an older couple. Naturally, they complained (don't blame 'em), and Garry got shlt on by the Corps of Engineers folks. Nasty beootch wrote him a letter, made it his problem because some azzholes acted like idiots.
Garry has been doing the get together for almost 15 years. Really sucks.

yea finally,i bought it kinda knowing the motor was trashed,he said oh yea it runs,,he should have said used to,,but no big deal i built a 496 BBC that will damn near launch it out of the water,,,added a place diverter, new steering wheel, radio, and put new wood in the front seats, he had let that thing sit outside with no cover over the breather so yea there were two cylinders full of rain water and it had been in there long enough to ruin the block plus he had a freeze plug glued in a square hole that was suppossed to be round,,go figure,,these guys were calling a quadrabogg a holly double pumper,,so probably a good thing i rescued the old boat,,nice guys just didnt know alot about the motor. They are young, and i've been there done that. are you going to make it in oct.there are so many boats i have to remember so i can find different people glad someone knows mine,,,look us up

i had 3 bikinis on my boat last weekend :D just make sure they put down a towel first :jawdrop: mine is actually a very dark charcoal gray with a faint copper pearl essence blended in. it is paint and VERY fragile. I wouldn't walk on my deck anyways, it is kinda thin. the new interior is yellow and charcoal gray and looks much better. no more shag indoor/outdoor carpet. :( I bet that lake is gonna sound awesome.

oldbuck40

Whitney lake is about an hour and 15-20 minutes south of Dallas, take HWY 67 south out of Dallas to Cleburne and get on state HWY 174 and go South headed toward Meridian you will eventually cross the Brazos River,,the little get together will take place just south of the 174 bridge 2 or so miles, dont bother going to the lake and drive up its a waste of gas and usually too rough

If you haven't been to this "gathering" before or to Whitney before, you really need to run on up the river. After watching a few boats racing, it's nice to get a bunch of boats and cruise around...there are a lot of nice beaches and you can run the boats up there without being hassled too much. I have a feeling they might try to shut the deal down at Plowman as far as drags, so the best thing to do is just go on up and re-locate. Years back there used to be a lot more speed boats up where the river Y's and it has a good quarter mile stretch for running.

Hi Guys..... I've been in touch with the park rangers on Whitney. I've told them that there won't be a big cookout this year and that I would be just a lowly camper and not responsible for anyone else's screw ups. I think they will enforce park rules a little tighter this year but I don't believe they will be too bad. We haven't seen a game warden down there in years, but you never know when one will show up. Patti is one of the wardens here and she is very nice and doesn't mind everyone having a good time as long as they don't get stupid. If things go well this year I will probably look into applying for a special events permit next year and going full blast again. We've got the best water we've had in years, the lake this morning was at 533 and that is normal. We had over 5" of rain today and I hear more is on the way. That shouldn't hurt us down there. Some of you mentioned earlier about riding up the river. I recommend it. There are some pretty sites. Let's everyone cooperate with the Corp people this year and follow the park rules. If everyone does right, it can only get bigger and better. If anyone has any questions, give me a call or email me. The phone number is 254-889-3336 and my email is snowman069@hotmail.com .

Guess what..... we don't even have a spot this year. Guess I'll just have to drive that 5 miles to the house. I hate that, damn soft bed, air conditioning, and nice showers, who needs em anyway. We'll pobably go down a couple of days ahead of time and try to pick up one of the non reservable sites. Maybe if not, some of you guys will let us hang out with you.

I know everyone is getting excited about the get together, i hope everyone has been keeping up with what happened at Havasu this past weekend,it has been a very sad weekend for alot of familys out west. I can speak from experience i lost my to be future son in law 4 years ago to the same kind of acident and it did happen at Whitney Lake where we are going, some of the guys may remember that are from the area down there they hit the cliff wall in a cove over close to Cliff View and i think used to be fish hook lodge? he was 22 years old, life just beginning out having a good time and was taken from us so quick! so lets all be very careful and stop and think before we act,and dont be too proud to give the keys to someone else thats sober, that just prove's that you are a MAN and no one will think bad of you,i for one will pat you on the back and never say a word, and besides i want to see everyone again next year!!!

Hey. We took our Top Sportsman car to Sealy, Texas this past weekend for our last IHRA Div IV points race of the year. We were in a very close battle for the points championship with 2 other competitors. We had fallen back to 3rd in points and were hoping to make it back into 2nd at Sealy. We got our game faces on and decided it was our weekend and we were taking no prisoners. We came away with the race win and we are this year's IHRA Div 4 Top Sportsman points champion. It was very tight as 3 points divided 1st and 2nd and just 10 seperated 2nd and 3rd. The 3rd place guy was leading the points coming into this race. Kevin, you probably know the guy, Monte Weaver from around Lubbock. He runs a 63 Corvette called The Joker's Back. The other car in contention was Scott Hintz form Odessa, I believe. They run a late model Mustang. Our car is a 97 Olds Cutlass built by Kim Smith Race Cars. I built the 632 alky injected Pontiac, tune it, and crew chief the car. Les Dugas is the driver. The car runs consistent low 4.90's on the motor and 4.40's on the spray. We don't spray it running class, but we run some Outlaw Top Sportsman once in a while and will spray a couple of hundred HP. Any way................. look forward to seeing everyone at Plowman's...

Greaser if you like, Texas Jet and I are supposed to meet up somewhere around Somerville on Friday and have a small convoy from there. Jeff knows how to get there and he can lead the way  We could always arange a meeting between all 3 of us. We will be traveling up Hwy 36. I'll talk to TexasJet and see what he says about it. If you guys are planning on coming in on 36 thru Somerville, then you will be going thru Caldwell, right after Somerville. Maybe we can meet up here in Caldwell. The Exxon gas station would prolly be the best place, and you guys could prolly use a rest stop by then. :mix: If this plan works out, just let me know about what time, and I will be there. Just incase, I will pm you my cell #
As far as Rick,(blue and white jet) when I last talked to him about it, he said he had to see if it was his weekend with his daughter or not. I will try to get back in touch with him this week.

hey greaser,
i would bring at least 2-5gal cans, they do sell gas at indian lodge it cost a little more than at the pump but its right there!! there is also a station about 4 or 5 miles up the road if you want to go to the trouble,,also might boat has 2 - 10 gal tanks and if i go to the beach and dont run w o t, i can get there and use 8-9 gal, thats on a 496 BBC with a single 850 and there is NO GAS up river,,so i would bring the cans!!!!

Greaser
09-24-2004, 02:50 PM

cookieman
09-24-2004, 07:09 PM
I don't think you guys will have to worry about gas. There is a place just before you get to the river about 8 miles to get gas. If you have never been this is one of the best boat rally's you will go to. I think every kind of boat will come out of the woods to attend this event. Let's just all hope that we have good weather, last year it rained off and on for both days. I have been the last 3 years and it gets better every year. I think Snowman has already said it, have fun but be safe. I know that in years past I have seen some really fast boats running out there and the drivers don't even put on a life jacket. Anyways hope to meet some new people this year, see ya at the river next weekend.

Justwatched the weather...... Cold front coming through sometime late tomorrow with a good chance of some storms tomorrow night and early Saturday, then beautiful sunny weather the rest of the weekend with highs in the upper 70's Saturday and low 80's on Sunday. The low Saturday night should be in the mid 50's. We sent a scout down to the park late this afterneen and there were already several people and boats there. This is sounding like the biggest one yet. If everyone acts right I might consider doing the special events permit for next year and putting on a big feed again. There is a gas station with premium about 3/4 of a mile from the Kimball Bend bridge and it's about 2 miles from Indian Lodge. Keep in mind, I can step out on my upstairs deck and see the lodge, so don't be running around naked, unless of course you are in the presence of a good looking female type in the same condition. Look forward to seeing everyone there. We went down yesterday and got the last 3 non-reservable RV sites that were left, 21, 22, and 24. Stop by and say hello.
