Last week we did the full on family trip to a lake up north and was nothing like our normal Havazoo D-row adventures! My eight year old son was Wake boarding for his first time. Needless to say he is hooked and my wife said I must buy a boat that we can use for tubing/wakeboarding/ and skiing. What are you guys using for a great all around family day boat? I told her the 36 outlaw was fine to ski behind but she disagrees. Please give me some ideas.
Thank you very much everyone:)

Anyone one of the many 21' Daycruisers out there would work pretty well to pull tubers, skiers, wake boarders etc.. Go take a look at Shockwave's step skiers as well as maybe a Used 21 stealth? I'm assuming your keeping the big boat for the majority of boating?

The only thing I can say about the customs is I don't think a cat would be a good ski boat. I'm sure I have just incurred the rath of every $100,000+ deckcat owner on the boards, but I do think you need a v-bottom openbow or deck.

What kind of motors are ok in a 21 for playing?

Don't go less than a 350 MAG. Since you are talking about skiing. Try to find one with a Bravo III outdrive. The get out of the hole like a Mastercraft.

Thanks, I can afford lunch with a motor like that too! Are they reliable?

That was my thought if you want to stay away from the average
tourney boat.

If your looking used, then odds are your going to be looking at Merc's older pkg's. I'd look for a 454 Mag / Bravo 1 combo. They have good internals if god forbid you get the urge to bump the HP a little. ;)

If you are going to keep the big boat, then I would a get 2nd boat that was built to pull $hit...also, I would look for something in the 22-23 range, either Mastercraft, Tige 22V, Malibu 23 LSV, or Nautique....If buying a wakeboard boat, I would stick with those three and a Vdrive preferrably ...I just picked up used 04 Malibu LSV and it is sick...96Qt built in ICE Chest, seating for 14, pulls like the Duramax with the Hammerhead motor, just a damn good all around Ski Boat....We have a 23 Eliminator Eagle we will selling that is okay for towing, but when low speeds (11-12mph) are required, it just does not drive on a dime like the wakeboard boat....also the tower makes boarding and tubing a night and day experience...more lift generated...

I've seen people ski and wakeboard behind some pretty big v-bottoms (like 24-29 feet). If you want something bigger give them a try.

V-drive the ticket? Are they ment for slow speeds? I like the 96qt ice chest idea!!! Will I sink at the river in these comp boats?

We just bought a 21 Stealth with the 6.2L and plan to do some skiing and wakeboarding behind it but we also wanted a good all around cruiser. I agree with Mbrown, if you want a boat to for towing you can't beat the Tige, Natiques, etc. If you kids get any good at wakeboarding they won't settle for less. The wake behind a 21 Stealth and the wake behind a 21V Tige are not even comparable from a wakeboarding point of view and a tower is almost mandatory for the baig air tricks. Just my $.02.

Check out some of the bigger wakeboard boats if you want a safe, fun boat to ski behind. They are no race boats, but they do the job.
some great deals can be found on used 23ft malibus, tige 23Vs pre 2003 and other boats like the Sanger V230, Supra etc, you will be suprised about the storage and room in the boat.

2 boats can be a crowd if one is still sitting with a payment. i have seen some bigger Halletts with towers on them, you can shred behind anything as long as it will hold speed around 14-22mph
i think you can get perfect pass for an IO, its the best thing for riding. cruise control

The V Drive really opens the seating up...look below...and it makes for a nice hatch for the girls to lay out on...also, the vdrive is going to get you a better wake... As for Freeboard...it has more then the Eliminator....

That is exactly why we got the comp boat...we boat every other weekend...take the cat on the river or lake on Saturday, and take the wakeboard boat out Friday afternoon, maybe late Saturday afternoon, and Sunday day....We took it out with the cat on Saturday to Zoo, and it was a little rougher than the Eliminator going from the Springs to Naked Turtle, but definitely doable...but not something we purchased it do all the time...it is pretty much a river or south part of the lake havasu boat...

Picked up the 2004 used for 49....it had every option on it, perfect pass, Hammerhead motor, tower, speakers, amps, hot/cold shower, heater (3 vents), an Extreme Trailer that has more options than my DCB Extreme...retailed at 68...brand probably would have picked it up between 63-65...you can get 03 for somewhere in the 30's..at the end of the summer will be a good time to look...lots of folks upgrade to the 05's...

Yeah....when I was looking...starting out new with nothing on them was like 51 before anything tax, licenses, no system, nothing....Heck, when I called Nautique, there 22.6 started at 62 with no big options...now they come with some, but you could easily add 10-15K in options between motor, PP, tower speakers, amps, and trailer bling...
The best way is to find used someone that needs the get out or is bored with it..

something to look at. I wakeboard 3 to 4 times a week, all of the Vdrive boats will be great for beginners to experts. Any boat is a fun wakeboard boat as long as it has a wake and some cruise control.
the biggest wake ive ridden wasnt 3k pounds in a Super Air Nauti, but some beastmaster bayliner wanna bee thing. Go have fun and spend as little as possible, i hear Cigarettes dont come cheap.

I have been very impressed with this "little" motor. So far it has been flawless! It has not used any oil in 40 hours of cruising, tubing and skiing. My boat is a '02 Chaparral 230 SSI with a Bravo III weighing 4,100 dry. My last boat had a 7.4L Bravo III and used some oil. My favorite thing about this 350 is starting it. Just turn the key (dead cold) thing fires right up. The last boat and a 7.4 carb motor and you had to choke it.

That might be the best bet. Find a used one that isn't thrashed.
I bought mine new, stripped.
I added the shower and the tunes myself. Obviuosly no tower.
But I have the removable Skylon with wake board rack.
Bimini is next.
I'm glad Iv'e takin good care of my boat! It's still like new.

I say a 21' Schiada river Cruiser or a 21' Hallet Vector. Both v drives with twin turbo BBC power.
That way you can ski & wakeboard all day and still do a few 110 MPH blasts around the lake!

Here's a few schiada's that I think you could show face in.
What more could you ask for. Good seating, good inboard ski wake, will handle as much HP as you can sock to it. NO drive breakage!!
If you have never driven a v drive daycruiser you should before you spend any money on anything else.
