Hey guys..........just stumbled on this board today while doing research for a boat. I'm looking to purchase a boat that i can take out on the lakes and rivers but also handle in ocean water for trips to Catalina. Most of my friends have said that I should get a 28' or bigger, but a couple stated that Aftershock makes a 24' footer called the tremor, that supposedly handles well in the open ocean. I know I'm most likely going to have to go with a used boat but my budget is in the 45-65k range? Any suggestions on types of boats to consider would be helpful. Also if any of you are selling......drop me a line.
Thanks for your help...........I've surfed this site for 2-3 hours already today and have found it very imformative.

Actually the boat you refer to is a Shockwave 25 Tremor. Many people take the trip to Catalina in them but use them primarily on the lakes. Search under Shockwave and you will find lots of threads. You can't find one negative about the people or the boats at SW. I am extremely happy with mine. Does everything and more based on what I was told it would do pre-purchase. A new one with a 496HO will cost a little more than $65. though. You will get about 70 MPH with that setup.
Here is a pic of mine:
Here's the boat at Cottonwood.....this picture doesn't do the colors justice.....

Here's the interior......

Good luck and others will be responding I am sure
Here is a search on Shockwave here on the boards:

aftershock calls their 24 and 28 v-bottoms Tremor as well, hence the confusion with shockwave

Any thoughts on Cheetah 29', or Kachina boats? Haven't seen very many of those?
Also they're closed now, but anyone know if you have to make an appointment to go see the folks at shockwave?

Tuesday thru Friday you can probably just drop by at any time at Shockwave. See Barry. I was just driving by, went in, saw a boat I liked and got it done quickly.

Since you mention running in the ocean, you may want to consider a larger boat with the safety of twin engines and a full inner lined cockpit. After carefull consideration and thought, I would advise you get a Schiada 32. It may be a littel out of you price range, but sometimes you have to say "what the f*ck." :D

I agree........post the pics of your boats along with the pro's and con's. While the Schiada is a nice boat, I'm already strecthing myself to 65k. Being it's my first REAL boat I think I should stick to my budgeted range.

pros and cons are easy....will apply to all builders you mentioned.
pros, its a boat, floats, runs, family and friends will have a great time with it :D
cons....costs $$$ to run and there is not near enough time to spend on it :(

I vote for a Shockwave Tremor. I'm biased, but really like that boat and I know that they handle the ocean well for a 25' boat. Call the shop at 909-898-9360 and talk to Barry. He will help you out..

The Tremor is a large 25 and I would also look at the 25 Nordic. I am not sure of the price of either. May also want to look at a low hour 1 or 2 year old boat.

80+ MPH on turn key 525SC w/chiller all the goods. Motor warmed, installed, & maintained by reputable (from this board) mechanic. 24 degree hull cuts through the rough stuff and high free board. Taken it to Catalina several times. Great on the ocean or the lake. asking 40k obo. Love the boat but am moving up to a 35'/38' range. Just a personal note, I bought the boat new and will never buy another new boat again. Dont like the 25%+ hit you take the day you tow it off the lot.

Just wanted to thank all of you being so helpfull. I've gotten a few pm's with boats for sale and suggestions. The "community" here seems to be a close knit one and very cool. Hope to meet some of you on the water soon!
Also please keep posting a pic of your boat and the pro's and con's of your boat. I need to absord as much info as possible.......LOL. Plus who doesn't enjoy seeing pics of custom boats....LOL :D

i thnik i would be building a new Lavey Craft with 65k. probably get a 23' (they call it 21") with a bad ass motor and evry option. the shockwaves are nice too. dont know how much the lavey 24 nu era goes for but it's another that's DEFINENTLY (sp?) worth looking into.

Out of all of those, Shockwave hands down. At least one of the other's (not naming names) have no business in that list. However, with the price range you're looking at, you might consider a slightly used boat with more options than a new one that you have to strip down to meet your budget. Just a suggestion. :rollside:
