I might buy an XR drive from a private party. Do all XR drives have a 1.25" prop shaft or can you get them with a 1". This one has a 1" prop shaft. How long has the XR drive been offered by Mercruiser? This seems to be from 1997
Thanks for you help.

Here ya go:
Mercury Mercruiser Drive
Drive Bravo One XR
Designed for high-performance applications, the Bravo One XR features a dual water pickup case, billet aluminum bearing carrier, and heavy-duty propshaft and hub. This recent addition to our drive lineup features the race-proven Bravo One® gear housing packed with heavy-duty components for enhanced reliability and durability. A heavy-duty U-joint, steel chimney, improved thrust bearings, net-forted straight gears, and thicker upper gear floor provide structural integrity to handle more torque. The rear-loading, stainless steel propshaft fits all square-bore Mercury propellers for greater versatility. Standard on HP575 SCi. Optional on HP500 EFI, HP500 Bulldog® and 496 MAG HO.
Drive Features
Bravo One Gear Housing packed with all-new heavy-duty components.
Larger U-Joint handles additional torque.
New Transom Plate Assembly designed for larger U-joint features heavy-duty gimbal assembly.
Near-Net-Forged, Straight Bevel Gears and redesigned upper gear socket floor for enhanced strength and durability.
Upgrade Upper-End Thrust Bearings and steel upper gear bearing support.
Induction Hardened Driveshaft features a larger body for increased torsional strength.
Custom Billet Aluminum Bearing Carrier.
Heavy-Duty, Stainliness Steel Propshaft fits all square-bore Mercury proplellers.
Available with 1.50:1 gear ratio in right-hand and left-hand rotation.
Dual Water Pickup Gear Case. Designed to enhance reliability for the modern step-hull designs, for boats with elevated engine installations and when operating the drive at high trim angles. New design improves the flow of cooling water to the engine by featuring extra side water inlets. Standard on the Bravo One, Bravo One XZ, and Bravo One XR.
Power Trim XD with hydraulic memory returns the drive to the preset trim position in the event it comes into contact with underwater objects. A MerCruiser® - exclusive feature standard on all drives.
Greasable Drive Coupler that is accessible from inside the boat reduces the amount of time your boat is out of the water during routine maintenance. A MerCruiser - exclusive feature standard on all drives.
3-Year Limited Corrosion Failure Warranty. A MerCruiser - exclusive feature on all standard production gas and diesel sterndrive and inboard products. All aluminum components are cast with our exclusive XK-360 alloy, which contains very little copper for maximum corrosion resistance. Other corrosion-susceptible parts are built from the highest-grade stainless steel. As part of a demanding 14-step process, each coat of paint is baked on for maximum adhesion, while our exclusive Electro Deposition Priming ensures uniform, complete coverage. Electrostatically applied acrylic powder paint finishes the job.
Mercathode® protection neutralizes corrosive galvanic electrical currents that can destroy metal components. A MerCruiser - exclusive feature standard on all Bravo™ drives and available as a kit for the Alpha drive.
Easily Accessible Drive Lube Monitor. Conveniently located atop the engine for easy access and allows the drive lubricant to be checked from inside the boat. A MerCruiser - exclusive feature standard on all sterndrive models.
Audio Warning System. Alerts boater of low oil pressure, high engine temperature and low drive lubricant. Standard on all MerCruiser models except 3.0L.

another:
Bravo One XR
The Bravo One XR™ drive features the race-proven Bravo One® gear housing packed with heavy-duty components for enhanced reliability and durability up to 575 hp high-performance applications. Aside from larger U-joints, thicker upper gear floors and heavy-duty driveshafts, the Bravo One XR drive is stronger and sturdier because of several key elements, including steel bearing supports to counteract gear-separating forces; and larger, heavy-duty stainless steel propshaft with billet bearing carrier and common prop hub. The heavy-duty propshaft fits all square-bore Mercury propellers, giving the sport boater greater flexibility in propeller options. In addition, the drive is standard with a dual water pickups gearcase, improving the flow of cooling water to the engine for enhanced reliability and performance. The Bravo One XR drive comes standard on the HP525 EFI and HP575 SCi and is optional on the HP500 EFI and 496 MAG High Output (HO)™.
Features & Benefits
Bravo One gear housing packed with heavy-duty components.
Larger U-joints handle additional torque.
New transom plate assembly designed for larger U-joint features heavy-duty gimbal assembly.
Selected models available with Integrated Transom System (ITS).
Net-forged gears and redesigned upper gear socket floor for enhanced strength and durability.

Based on hallett 260's post that the drive is from 97, sounds like someone is passing a B1 off as an XR:eek:
Hallett 260, get the serial number off the drive and get a hold of MerCruiser, they should be able to tell you what you are looking at.
Best of Luck
