Watts Bar. I left Harbor Lights (Bass Bay) at 11:15 and we locked through Watts Bar, went to Oochie (sp?) Landing then up to Thief Neck Island and back. 150 Miles Round trip. And yes Ziggy, No Friggin Trailer :D

It was tons of fun. Saturday was a very rare 0% humidity and 80 degree day. No clouds or haze!! Just beautiful blue skys. I have several other pics that may look familiar to you that I'll post maybe tonight.

Do they open those locks for just anybody that wants passage? Seems like a lot of work to let a pleasure boat through. JMO YMMV NTTAWWT
As long as commercial traffic is not locking through then you could lock through on a Sea Doo. I've seen it done. As you can see by that pic we were the only boat in the chamber. Oh yeah, it's free too.

Locks are neat the frist few times......It is amazing to me that I can put in at my can along the Muskingum river in Ohio and get to New Orleans without pulling my boat out of the water, and if I was brave and had a little bigger boat I could theoreticly get to California by boat from my dock! :D
I would like to take a river trip some day to New Orleans....Its on the wish list....one day...

I know several people that have left Knoxville or the Nooga and gone to the Florida Keys. Very cool. Takes a little money though

5 years ago a good friend of my from Knoxville did this in his 400 Express Cruiser. $5,000 in gas!!! Gas was probably $1.50 then. He ended up having it trucked back from the Keys for $2,500.

The trip to the Gulf (Mobile Bay) took (I'm going from memory here) 5 days and not sure after that. I do know that the whole trip was 1 month. He had some great stories to tell. I wish I had gone.

I don't think I'd want to do the locks on a SeaDoo. If ya fell off they might never find ya again. I remember going through the locks on the Minnesota and Upper Mississippi River as a kid. Pretty cool the first few trips. After that, they're hot as hell during the summer.

It's not something you have to or want to do every day. Like you said the kids think it's cool every once an a while. Believe it or not I have seen Sea Doos in the chamber while locking. Even funnier, ducks will swim in with the boats because people feed the and lock up or down.

Hey Deb, There is a tour outfit that rents a barge and a tug. People drive their RV's onto the barge and hook up to the electrical and plumbing and cruise the TN River. We call it the Geezer Barge. I haven't seen any of them towing a Kachina yet :D

Well I would go in my boat (duh) jk/lol :D
I have always wanted to start at Wawheap and travel Lake Powell up to Bullfrog and Hiatt (spelled wrong) That is our biggest lake around here. (I am ignorant of the N.Cal lakes)
Man, a five week trip on a river, would be sooooooooo cool. How many miles did he average a day? Did he sleep on his boat, or stay at hotels along the way?
When we retire I want to buy a big old boat and cruise around the ocean!
:D

To do this trip on Powell and Bullfrog, etc..... They would need to install the biggest friggin locks you've ever seen :D
I'm not sure what averaged per day. He was cruising in his Sea Ray 400 Express Cruiser. I think they cruise around 22 knots (It ain't no Kachina). He slept on the boat. It's like a floating condo. 2 bedrooms, a/c, generator, kitchen, bathroom etc.... They fished, dove, cruised, and partied. He said boating in the "blue water" was the best thing ever.

Wow, sounds great!
(I meant Bullfrog on Lake Powell. There is another Bullfrog, by Laughlin, right?)
But, that is a good idea, I don't know how they would do it, but just think if we could travel from Lake Powell down to Mead, down to Mohave, down to Laughlin/Havasu and then to Parker! :D

No more official Color Cruise. But it used to be the last 2 weekends in October.
