Hi everyone! I am finally going to order a Place Diverter for my boat. I have a JG pump and am thinking about a manual diverter so I have more control (click right where I want it) rather than guessing. Do you guys agree?
If so how should I measure for the right cable lenght?
I appreciate your input!
Adam S.
P.S. CP Performance has the manual for $550 is that about the best price I'll find?
Thanks again!

if it doesnt clutter the floor the manual floor or stringer mount works fine. no place for it in my day cruiser. Measure for the cable from where you place the control to the transom. add 3' for the loop outside.Measure along your route. rember a little long is 1 hell of a lot better than a little short. Once its in beg or borrow a hand held GPS and find your fastest notch.
Mark it . thats where you run the boat. Allthe way up is for lake lice all the way down for starting or pulling fat chicks slow.

Nordic ,does your price quote includes the cable? [normally it's extra because of different lenghts]California Marine's price is $517 US plus shipping ,no tax to US residents.PH: 604-278 1880

Can I run a diverter w/ a JC bowl? I also would like to run a large rudder, or is the small one just as good? I have the stock loader grate. Looks like a grill. I`ve bought all my parts through Eddie Marine, are they expensive, sounds like ya`ll are getting a better deal.

jroos I have a JC bowl and I was told that they for sure make diverters for those. As for the rudder, I can't answer that, but I have a large rudder on mine now (no diverter) and maybe it's worse with a small or no rudder, but that's hard for me to imagine heh. As for your stock grate check it out every so often to make sure the fingers aren't bent/cracked. One of mine snapped off a couple of seasons ago and went through the pump.

Nordic, the diverter comes without cable,Dave is working on it right now, what he can do.Jroos, yes you can put a place diverter on your JC bowl! The larger the rudder, the more effective it is at idle speed. You don't need a rudder for high speed if you're not concerned about slow speed wonder.A jetboat without rudder can be spun around quicker at very slow speeds and docking. If you have a grill looking grate, thats a rock grate which is fine for all around performance. The loader grate is a steep angled unit to direct the water to the top portion of the impeller. It is advisable to periodically check the fingers [welded]for bends and cracks, like bubbledecks experience is not much fun in the middle of the season http://free.***boat.net/ubb/eek.gif

spectras only,
Yes that price did come with the cable complete stringer or floor mount $545.99+shipping, but I would be interested to see what they can do. Do you work for them or is that where you get your stuff? If the price is right I will order it today (if possible).
Thanks For Your Help !

Thanks for the info. Spectra, are you saying it is easier to dock without a rudder? I would think you would have more control with one. I want one for safety purposes incase I lose power so I can still steer and not run into the bank. A guy here in Louisiana lost power at high speed, everyone had to jump out and boat went in the woods. Also, what about a ride plate, would it help my boat or not. It is very heavy. Where can I get one? Can I make my own? I am pretty good with fab work and aluminum. I saw one on a boat(pickle fork) and it looked as if the rear of it was adjustable. I took it as this was for planing purposes. I`m not running at high speeds, just skiing and tooling around.

Jroos, even a big rudder is too small for steering a jet.The principal of jet drives is thrust,so it's more efficient to give small bursts to dock and maneuvre .I can walk my boat sideways if I only have two feet front and back between two boats, just with short bursts of throttle with forward/reverse control.I do have a rudder on and off without any ill effect. It helps my wife and son to keep the boat going straight without too much compensating against wondering.A straight hull and keel line does most of the steering in an event of power loss in a jet boat. It's good practice to line sort of paralell to shore coming in before throttling down ,once you close to your spot then turn towards the shore and idle in.I've witnessed once two guys with a jetboat coming rather too fast to the beach and cut the power off too late, the boat just kept going sraight and landed 30 feet on land between two tents.Luckily everybody was still up in the campsite,so no one got hurt.Took close to 20 people to drag the boat back to the water. The ride plate is a good idea. If you go to California marine's website I think we have a picture of a rideplate that hooks up with turnbuckles on a JG bowl.If you have last years October Hot boat ,Brian from Hot Boat took pictures of the last Catalina we made, that has the ride plate on it.You can make it yourself with ordinary tools.Almost all Catalinas with jet had this feature.

Hey nordic 18, hope its not to late. Consider the Hydralic kit and guage kit. That lever is a bit much for the wife to move around under power. the gauge works great and anyone even my kids can change the nozzle with a touch of the switch on the wheel. This comes in handy when running about 40 mph and encounter big chop, just a quick thumb press and the nozzle goes down and so does the bow of the boat. Much easier on the kidneys. A bit more money but in my experience of owning a hydralic for 7 years well worth the money. :d

Jroos ,you right on,Southwind splashed Spectra[Don't get me wrong ,I like the Swinds]and I really like their 18 mini cruiser. We have an original poster of Southwind boats in the shop on the wall.By the way ,you don't need a dig camera, just get an HP scanner and download your photographs to your C-drive.Remember a 35mm negative film has 10.000.000 pixels versas the average digital camera's 3.3. I'm waiting until they manage to make at least 6.0 mega pixels, before buying one.
