Tow there with empty tanks in the boat. better gas mileage, and the gas is normally 20 cents a gallon cheaper at the Safeway In Fort Mojave than it is here. If you don't burn more than a tank a day, leave the gas cans at home, too. You have to pull the boat each day, so go across the bridge and fill up for the next day. :D

American Express. Don't leave home without it!
What is the going rate of exchange, Beers to tow ratio?
Mad dash tonight to get the boat back in one piece :)
If I don't get er done tonight I guess I'll be getting in line Friday.
Otherwise see Ya on the beach!

hack job
08-11-2004, 07:18 AM
gas cans are not allowed on the beach. you will either have to ues there gas dock ( and there gas or pull it out to fill-er-up)
sorry they got on us last year for that. :argue: stupid but they dontwatn gas in the water were every one is standing ;)

Usually I'm a minmalist when it comes to packing, but after doing this gig for a couple of years, here's what I'd say you'll want to have on hand.
Boat - keys for the boat, tools, ropes, anchor, fenders, proper USCG safety equipment, extra basset T spring if you run that setup, a backup electric fuel pump if you run the holley red/blue/black units and plan on using your boat for more than 20 minutes :D , working spare for the trailer, and grease up those bearings on the trailer and the pump
Tow Rig - CB is nice, fully operational A/C, cooling system in good condition, your favorite hair band CDs, and maybe a little Buffet to take the edge off
Personal Stuff - sunscreen (use it), shade of some sort, a cooler, beer, gatorade, water (it gets damn hot and beer dehydrates you), cheapo fold up target chairs in the bag, sun glasses, towels, camera with extra batteries, extra memory/film, cash for impromptu snack urges in Barstow, some clean clothes, and a good attitude. The later of the the group can overcome shortcomings of any of the others.
Gas - Roostwear hit it between the eyes. Gas is cheaper at the River, so why tow around an extra couple hundred lbs in fuel if you don't have to. Plus you might be able to find better octane in AZ ;) Don't fill up on the water unless you absolutely have to, and of course, if you're going to, having a fuel/water separating filter in your fuel system would be a nice addition. Oh, and know approximately how much range you have with your fuel capacity. Its a long haul down to the sandbar and its nice to be able to judge your gas stops appropriately.
A final note, bring more $$$ than you thought you'd need. Something happens on Saturday night that I can't explain. Guys are buying drinks for folks they've never met before the weekend, and you WILL get caught up in the action :) Then there's the fireworks which always put a dent in some closet pyromainiac's wallet.
A little more than a day to go, and I've gotta get back to work so I can get home and finish the boat.

Wow, thanks for all the info, I think I have everything taken care of. Except, I dont have bumpers of a spare fuel pump and yes I have a holley blue that I have ran for 7 years. That is the only thing that can take a dump and why do I have the feeling it will??? :( if it does, hopefully someone can break theirs out so I can borrow it. :)

list not necessarily in order
1) top shelf vodka (prevents hangovers)
2) red bull (so I don't have to sleep and miss something)
3) husband (he pays for everything--that's kinda important)

Can't wait, kids had a baseball game tonight, temp was 108 when we started at 6:00.
A temp of 115 at the river sounds like perfect beer weather. I should be to the Avi by 6:00 tomorrow night.

Not that I would ever try to get a free beer, much less a silver bullet. No, not me. Hope you dont mind if I check out the boat, but I hope I dont get too thirsty... :D

I just bought these at www.llmarine.com in Corona. Might work better than the Walmart ones they protect the deck from high docks and from boats with more freeboard. For us that our "Cleat and Freeboard Chanllenged".

Sorry if someone already posted this, but I did not read through all the posts:
Donald, and others, be sure not to fuel your boat with your gas cans on the beach (or atleast don't get caught). Fuel it up in the parking lot or pay at the pumps. It is a big no-no. They will hassle you for sure, and I have no idea what the fine is if LEO comes by.
Wish I was going!! I have a training to put on this weekend where we put the Vulcan Mind Meld MLM whammy on new unsuspecting victims. :jawdrop: ;)
