Not quite sure exactly how far offshore...but I know it is close enough to shore to watch from the shore. If I am not mistaken it takes place right at Huntington pier area. I figure I will just cruise around out there till the course patrol says back up. ;)

Charley,
Yes, it's really happening. Come on down and join us. Green flag Sunday at 12:00. Saturday testing 11:00 to 3:00. Hang out, have a beer look over the boats. Better yet, put on a jacket and helmet and give racing a try.

Ironically enough The wife, Baby and I went down saturday night and saw the charity dinner happening...so we shoveled out the dough and ended up sitting right behind you guys! Well the guy in the booth I thought was on the "flashwave" Team and his shirt said "driver"
small world!

Well Charley, I hope you and your family had a good time. I thought the food was very good. The gentleman you saw in the Flashwave Drivers shirt was Brett Seber. Brett is the President of Pacific Offshore. Brett stepped in to drive for me. He's an incredibly nice person. He's also fearless. Now I push the boat harder than most. Testing on Saturday we had the boat flying. Once we were about 10 ft high for 100 ft. When we landed he said, "is that all you got". Seems 80 mph in 3-4' nasty chop for 50 miles is just a cake walk for Brett.
Our spotters had us running faster during testing than our competitors. When the green flag went up today, our spotters werenÂ’t wrong. Unfortunately we hit a wave that took out the boats ignition, broke the onboard camera and ended our day. Congratulations go to Team Lavey and Team Velocity for finishing and placing 1st and 2nd.
There was a really good turnout of spectators. Seems everyone had a good time. We hope you enjoyed the show and look forward to seeing you again.

Jim - Had a blast watching this. It was amazing to see you guy screaming by. There were a lot of spectators. We kept having to move around to get a good view there were so many boats watching this thing. Sorry to hear about your ignition.
Question for you....it said above that the race was from 12-1:30, but everyone stopped at 1:00. Of course there were only two boats running at that point....Lavey and another. Do you stop running after a certain number of laps or time...which ever comes first?

We had a great time also. The Laveys were getting some air! And there did seem to be more spectator boats than race boats. But we had a great seat out in the ocean in turn two. Then off to Long Beach for the other boat races. What a Sunday!!!

The offshore races are setup for a fixed number of laps based on the class of boat running. Generally it takes about an hour to finish a race. The fast Supercats ran 15 laps, the Factory boats ran 13 and some of the P class boats ran 8. The reasons for the 12:00 to 1:30 time are:
1.) If a boat breaks they cannot take all day to fix it.
2.) The coast guard permit gives us total control of the water for a fixed period of time.
3.) We appreciate the volunteers who operate the patrol boats for us. Up front we let them know how long they will be on the water.
4. The safety personnel are contracted for a fixed amount of time.
Due to changes just before race time, the number of laps each class will run is only announced at the 9:00 am race day drivers meeting.
Were really glad you had a blast.

I am trying to find the driver of the boat about 20 ft that towed the course markers back to the peter's landing. When he came up the channel of the race boats he hit the front of my boat and bent the anchor holder. boat is about 20ft and had a wakeboard tower on it. It was driven by a gentleman about 60 years old and had a coast guard auxilary life jacket on. I think that the boat was either blue or teal. I need to find out how to find him so that he can replace the bent anchor windlass on the front of my sea ray. I have spoken to cris ferguson but he can't seem to locate the proper person.
