From what I understand the moved campers to the water and/or on houseboats. I'm having limited contact with friends up there. The fire moved away from the lake.

Just be prepared for the smoke and ash!!!! Its VERY bad.
I work out here at the college and Red Cross is keeping very busy, 94 structures and over 7500 acres as of this morning. The fire is 50% contained, thanks to the lake getting in its path at one point. It was started by a person on his lawn mower. Hes been sighted for starting the fire, wouldnt want to be that dude!!!!!! There is absolutely no wind so the smoke is so thick here its kinda hard to breath and we didnt even see the sun until late afternoon yesterday. Actually saw fire trucks from Santa Barbera yesterday.

Yeh it starts today, kinda hectick around here. To add to it they've sent everyone from the French Gulch fire (299) here as well. My uncle is working search and rescue on that fire and it pretty much started right off the road on 299 and burned up through the canyon torching the hole town along with a number of houses on its way. The hotel and a couple other buildings is all that was spared, 7500 acres so far from what ive heard. Good news is the Jones fire is 95% contained, they say over 10000 acres burned in that one. The fire in Shasta Lake City is a smaller fire at this point and I havent heard much about it yet. Sad to see all these people loosing there homes and everything they have in these fires, lets hope this is it for this year.

Just got back. The fire was raging at Jones and up the Pit arm. I have never seen that many Helo's working a single ridge!! LOTS of smoke! I heard a few cars/trucks with trailers burned up at Jones. People were out on house boats. Will be a hell of a shock when they come back in :frown:

My uncle was working on the Jones fire as well, he said the top of a pine tree actually exploded and shot sparks/flames accross the cove (about 1/4 mile) and caught the aria next to the marina on fire. Guess them pine trees get pretty dang hot!!!!
