I recently bought a boat that is going to need a facelift. I know that you can be more graphic with paint but gel coating is the standard for boats. I guess the question is.
With today's Flexible Paints do you prefer Paint or Gel?? Is there that much difference anymore??
:notam: Please lend your thoughts!!

I had a Tahiti painted in Tangilo orange House of Kolor trailer to match .It held up well never had any problems but if it got scratched it would be a nightmare to fix.
If it wer gel you could brush it back on and sand it out and repolish it up.That would not fly with paint.
I say do the base color in gel and do stripes ect in paint so you can get better colors.
It is all in who you ask ask a paint guy its paint ask a gel guy its gel.
What colors are you after candies, pearls, metalic, monster flake, ect?

:hammer2: I was looking at maybe a pearl white with overlapping tribal flames in assorted pearls. Maybe even ghosted. What do you think??

Not to change the subject, but what part of OR are you from? I always like to find out where there are more Spectras.

The whole thing in pearl  I would go something like white gel with pearl gost what ever you want less to fix if it gets Fed up but all pearl would look nice

I would go with gel. It takes a little more time but it lasts a lot longer. And it is a lot easier to fix unless it is in the flames or some other graphic. In the process of gelling mine now and it is a real learning experiance.

I personally like paint becasue its pretty easy to use. I painted my boat with Dupont Imeron WHite for the base, Top and bottom. Then I painted Kandy for the Trim and cleared over the entire top. If your nice to your boat it will last a long time with paint. I am at 4 years of use with out any major issues. Here are some pics.
Oh Ya I did use red pearl for the Ghost Flames!!

:2purples: Kind of a change in direction with this thread!!! Has anyone powdercoated their boat or trailer??? The neighbor suggested it to me. He stated that there is a place in town here that has an oven big enough to do it. Any price guesses on doing it??? Do you think it would hold up??? :2purples:

You can powder coat the trailer but I think it chips to easy when hit by rocks. And as for the boat no can do it wont stick and I would hate to see what it looked like after bakeing at 400 deg.

:2purples:I had another friend mention to have the trailer Line-X coated. He says it will seal out the water and is very durable. What do you guys think??? I am told you can get it in many colors as well. It comes with a 800-1000 price tag though. Lend me your thoughts. Thanks

I used paint on mine
Mainly cause I could paint it 3-4 times for the same $$ as Gel would have cost me----Plus I know how to paint and I know notta about Gel :hammerhea
If you know how to do Gel, it does hold up betterhttp://www.hotboatpics.com/pics/data/500/5165Boat_finished-med.JPG

If you use paint be sure and use a good high solids base clear system like Glasurit, Spies/Hecker, Sikkens these will hold up the best never use the cheap shit u will be sorry later when u are doin it again :hammer2:

Do some shopping around---I had the bed liner stuff sprayed on my trailer for about $500..It should be about the same $$ for the bed of a pick-up.. It's real nice just spray it off and you don't have to worry about chipping the paint either
