Thought I would share with all a little project with you all.
Background of the system.
1 Alpine 9827
2 jl-500's
2 jl-300's 1-x2 1-x4
1 pair jl 6.5 seperates
2 pair jl 6.5 components
4 8" jl subs
2 12" mtx subs possibly going to replace in the future for jl's
3 Optima Blue tops for the system
1 Optima Red for the motor and accessories.
With that said here is how we progressed.
Started with the layout. We sat down and planned out pretty much everthing from location to equipment. Ordered up the parts and started in on our project.
First photo shows the begin stage of our custom sub enclosures.

With all the work you put into the 12" enclosures, how come you didn't completely enclose the seat base for the 8s?
Looks great with proper spacing on the zip ties :D

Jetdriver
08-10-2004, 08:22 AM
Actually the seat base did get sealed. I didnt get any pictures of it, but I reresined the inside of the base and then sealed the top. Then the bottom of the seat fits over it.

Incase you guys didn't notice, JetDriver isn't a rookie... :D

Hey, nice job.
BTW, I make a billet radio bezel that is not just a cover but has ss brackets that bolt into the side of the radio (existing holes), has 1/4-20 studs that attach it AND the unit securely to the dash/panel and holds the unit SOLID. It has a snap in (o-ringed) smoked lexan cover that makes it watertight for trans/storage. The little handle on the cover matches the grab handles in the boat.
No cover to hange down and catch on stuff and no hinges to break. End of the day, snap the cover in. Comes polished, anodized or powdercoated most colors. CP Performance sells them in their catalog (also on-line) or you can PM me for info.
I went through three of the plastic pieces of crap in my own boat before I made a billet mount for myself. After refining them for my friends, went into production. Could never understand why with all the other trick billet stuff out, you still see boats with the cheasy plastic radio covers.

Nice! Good motivation for me and my project (1989 Baja Force 320).
Which brings up some questions, has anyone got any tips of rebuilding a boat interior (I posted in another thread under the Gear Head section). Some of the wood is rotted and the vinyl needs replacement. I'd rather put a bit of sweat equity into my boat rather than having a place refurb it for me. Are there kits available?
Another thing, have any of you run home stereo equipment in a boat using an inverter/gen set? I would imagine the sound quality to be better...maybe not (??)... I'm also wanting to pimp out the boat with a plasma TV.
Thanks,
Tom

We have Polk Audio bookshelf speakers in the Ultra. That is about the extent of my home theatre systems in a boat. 8 ohm speakers are a bit easier on the amps.

Check it out.... My boat has it's own thread :D :D
The system came out great. There is still some fine tuning to do (after I get the bass controls from Roz) and I still want to change out the MTX 12" with JL's just so everything is JL. It's amazing how fast a system upgrade can add up with things like $7.00 a Ft for 0-Gauge JL wire @60ft!! But with great friends like Shawn, Jeff and Roz it becomes affordable (kinda  ) and it sounds sweet.....
Thanks again guys !
Now who is gonna finance the next project? I'm tapped :D
P.S Special thanks to Steph (Mrs Jetdriver) and Jen (Mrs Bigamist) for letting their men spemd so much time at my house working on this and for helping me with the fans when Shawn and Jeff played ass wars in the bow of my boat !!!! The smell has finally started to work it's way out... Mental note: Never buy Tommys for the people helping you work on your boat! Specially if they are gonna be in a enclosed area !!! :D :D
