36' is in fact the number I believe, but on the big Poker Run weekends like at the end of this month, they will typically let everyone through.

36 feet is correct. However, as INSman said, during special evetns the length is not enforced as there are larger boats that participate. The reason behind the length limit, as explained to me by LHCPD, is to prevent hosueboats from crusing through the channel.

The signs are usually retracted...unless it is a very crowded weekend, then they display the signs.

Their are signs that say the limit is 36'. When the limit signs are visable at either entrance to the channel then this law is enforced.
if they "fold-up" the signs then any size boats can go thru the channel...
if it gets windy they may regulate the size and if you are "screwing" around they will still ticket you..the good LHC LE"s say if the captain of the boat is acting like a captain we have no problems with any size boat.
Thats what is was like last year.
this year there is talk of enforcing the 36 foot limit all year and talk about limiting the size of aboat to 23ft.. hows that for nerve.......
Yes most of us in Havasu agree its stupid tooo but what can we do?

That's a good statement right there.....how many problems would be avoided if the the "captain of the boat" actually acted like the "captain"?
The spring breakers in pontoon boats (and many others) don't get this concept....
 :D

I'm going to try cruising the channel this weekend and see if anyone notices my length violation.

Isn't a "Captain" an officially licensed category? I think most of us vessel operators would be called a "Skipper." no?

Yes, I think so.
I must confess... it's not mine. I was just posing with it momentarily. :)
