The minimum age in the Athems Olympics for Girls Gymnastics is 16...they just look prepubescent. Age limit has been in effect in International competition since 1997.

That sucks. They put the American teams in the same bracket, so there wouldn't be a possibility of them going Gold/Silver.
My wife and I were born a little too early. We grew up on the beach. I like to think of us as among the "pioneers" of beach volleyball. We played beach doubles since the late '60s (although not together, then) She was playing court volleyball, (traveled with a semi pro team to Canada) and spent summers on the beach. She played with the likes of Steve O'Bradovich and Jon Stephenson. She grew up with Mike Dodd, (Silver medalist at Atlanta, and commentator this year on the court matches) who, in those days they called "Buckwheat". She was teammates with Wilt Chamberlain (Volleyball only, you gutterminds) in a few matches during the South Bay Surf Festival in about '72. Their picture was on the sports page of the Daily Breeze.
I wasn't into it quite as heavy. Mainly as a diversion when the waves were flat, although I did play a few tournaments in Manhattan, and was Captain of a court team from the Coast Guard Station in Channel Islands that took the Ventura/Port Hueneme all-military Volleyball tournament.
Alas, we decided to grow up, but others like O'Bradovich, Dodd, Stephenson, Nina (Growinkle) Mathis, and others just wanted to keep on playing and formed the AVP. The rest is "Kings of the Beach" History.
It kills us to watch these guys (and gals) in the pros and on the Olympics and wonder what could have been. :frown:
