posted a thread awhile back about buildin a new boat and now I'm kinda tryn to figure out what to get. I love jets and I love speed... yet I hate how I get the piss beat out of me in rough water in my flat bottom that I have now. Not really lookin for people capacity or *plushness*.... want something simple that has alot of potential for high speed (not initially... but would like to break the 100 mph barrier in a few years). If it can hold 4 people and a cooler or two... perfect. Also, I am open to the whole prop thing even though those props are kinda :rainbow: and I dont like the idea of having someone turn one of them things on while I'm swimmin round the back of it. Was thinking something like a small Daytona would be the ticket... but I'm not too educated on all the boat manufactures out there and whos best at what. Buying a used a hull thats a few years old would probably be my best bet considering I'm only 24.
If ya dont mind, share your knowledge on what ya thing would be best for my needs. Thanks ya'll

Don't know your budget, but look for late 70's & early 80's Hallett, Eliminator, Sleekcraft & Laveycraft hulls. They will hold up forever & were hand laid fiberglass which keeps the weight down yet maintains very flexible & strong.
A real sleeper is the CVX20 Glastron Carlson models. They made quite a few & were very well built & performed great. They were used in James Bond films.

your 24 now and have certain needs....it may not be so long before those needs change again drastically---don't sink your $$$$ into something to much like what you already have--think ahead would be my advise ;) :supp:

I'm not having kids till I'm in my 30's... I've gotta have my toys first! shit.... Kinda gotta meet a girl that I'm interested in datting for more than 2 months for that! But hey, I did say seating for around 4 people... thats a wife and two kids right there! As of now thats like me, a hommie and two or three fine young ladies! :D

You say you like Jets, and speed, Do you have one? Is it really a flatbottom? Have not seen too many flatbottom jets. What kind of boat do you have now? Maybe a semi V jet? Just want to be sure we know what you have so we can help out. Flats will get pounded in the chop. Semi Vs aren't much better.
Where do you like to boat? River, Lakes, Ocean?
Helps to know your budget. Im a fan of the smaller boat because I can pay cash for them. May not have all the room I need, but thats alright with me...for now.

Ziggy is right. 24 was about the age I was when I ditched my 19' jet boat that only had room for a couple of buddies and an ice chest. I got tired of having no room and getting beat up on the Havasu chop. I went out and bought me a 22' open bow Essex with lot's of room for friends and a big ice chest.

I didn't say anything about kids---but that is one way of a drastic change...LOL
I just said your needs may change---might need test drive space on the boat to find that girl to date for more than a few months...stuff like that :D :D :D
Oh and the prop issue---I just made the switch to I/O after 10 yrs of jetting...I'm quite pleased with the change except the lost tail. ;)

This is what you need!! I keep the out board and you get a ultra light (450 pound hull) that is a true tunnel (no centerpod) and full kevlar too. Custom cover, tandem trailer, bimini top. http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/523/262P1010011.JPG

Look to my sig... thats my boat.
here's a pic of the back of it... looks like it has a little V to it... but thats just the cav plates more or less... its pretty damn flat in person.
http://img34.exs.cx/img34/311/BoatRear.jpg
Zacks is on the left holding his Brendella and his buddy Johnathan is on the right holding mine... that brendella has a hell of alot more v to it than mines does... by along shot. I also tend to get alot of porpuse action at higher speeds with it... think a place diverter and adjusting the cav plates would help alot with that though.
http://img34.exs.cx/img34/4373/P3180186.jpg
As for where.... I like rivers and lakes... that boat is too damn small for the ocean. Took it out once and it was scary as all hell! Theres fish out there bigger than the damn thing! Plus I dont like chop... but that probably a factor of having the boat that I do... cant avoid a good beating with it.

What's up with you and posting pics of flexing??? :D
If you want 100 mph and room I'd ditch the jet idea and go with something along the lines of a 21' Schiada River Cruiser with a v-drive (prop is underneath and rather hard to get tangled up in). Lots of room for coolers, people, pets, etc, plus they can be built to haul ass. ;)
p.s. I happen to know where one is for sale. :D

Hey Ryan,
I'm in the same "boat" as you man... 25 years old and sick of not having any room. I used to have an 18-foot Nordic v-bottom, but it was too cramped. So for a while I used an old 19' open bow cobalt, which had pleny of room but wasn't cool at all. Finally I figured out I needed a 21' daycruiser of some kind, preferably from the '70s since I just can't afford the $30k and up price tags for the more modern used boats from shops like Essex and Ultra.
Spectra, Campbell, Dimarco, Howard, Sanger, Eliminator, Biesmeyer and Hallett all made nice 21' daycruisers in the '70s and '80s that look pretty good, have lots of room, and can be bought cheap. I prefer the first three, since my dad has owned all those brands and seemed happy with them. A daycruiser like this won't be the fastest boat on the lake, but it will be pretty fast and very affordable (if any boat is truly affordable, which I doubt). However, I would consider going with a v-drive over a Jet. While jets are kinda cool in theory, they require much higher engine RPM to maintain the same cruising speed as a v-drive, meaning they burn A LOT more gas and wear out the engine faster. Also, you don't have to worry about passengers running into the prop on the v-drive unless they're underneath the boat... and in that case you have a serious problem anyway.
I bought my campbell as a complete running boat for $4,000. Here are some pics of the way it looked the day I bought it and took it for a test drive. The motorbox was included, I just took it off to watch the engine.
http://www.***boat.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=5299&stc=1
I know there are two 20' Campbells for sale over at the Campbell factory in Lake Havasu, one is about $10k and the other around $14k, if memory serves. Both are nice turn key boats.
Check them out here:
http://www.campbellboats.com/AZ9984L.htm
http://www.campbellboats.com/204320.htm
Plus (here comes my pitch) if you buy a Campbell we have a very active owners group that has some fun events, including the annual Regatta with several different kinds of racing, a themed boat parade through the channel, and keg beer on the beach. There are several young guys our age buying these boats right now too...
You can also make these boats a little more modern looking... here's mine after the re-gel

BTW: jordy is a spammer.
DT... look at 21 Eliminator Daytona. They made them from the early 80's too. They are hard to find but nice in rougher water than what you got now.
you can get your hands on a 19' Daytona for a lot less money. They can go very fast if set up correctly. They are small inside and handle less water but still nice.

I've got to get in on this one. You said you think props are kinda "rainbow", but you might want to look at a Stoker. The ride is great in rough water, the handling is second to none, there is plenty of room for 4 people and all your shit, and it scoots along pretty good. It is definitely the most fun I've had driving a boat (I had an 18' jet and a 21' jet before the Stoker). You can pick up a nice one for 15k to 20k...good luck with your search!

21' Eliminator Daytona with a blown big block and a jet pump or a O/B 300X from Mercury will get you into the 90's (possibly 100+ with set up work). Both will ride much nicer than your current boat and both are bitcen looking boats. O/B will have more room and is quieter (less tickets) while the jet will have more of a bling factor to it.
The other route is a 21' V-drive cruiser with a hi-po big block. It just depends on your taste.
Good Luck :boxed:

I love jets and I love speed.
First, you need to decide between those two interests.
Once you decide you're ready for some speed, check out this fabulous STV Euro. If I wasn't destitute, I'd buy it myself.
Add gas and some TC-W3 to this boat and you're doing 110+ mph.

Hey Drunk, I'm not "planning"(damn there's that word again :D ) on keeping the sanger hydro much more than a year. Just but it off me sometime next season after I do the resto this winter  They'll run 80 pretty easily but take some effort to get crazy fast.
BTW--I can't believe how much room it has over the brendella. Easily fit 4

Jordy--why are you selling your Schiada? Hard to beat a V drive Schiada!
Ziggy--I agree with your comments about priorities and how they can change. Yes, you do sound like my dad but it's amazing how much HE
has learned since I became an adult! Sound advice I'd say! How's your
new Commander Ziggy?
Bropb16--in response to your question about the Sleek 22 and 23' v bottom
Sundance and Magician boats. I sold several new and used and they're very
light weight and they have a certain gull winged shape to the v bottom so they actually tried to pack a bit of air like a cat. I have a real good video
of the boat on the Parker strip in a water ski race with a Merc blown 525.
Happy to show it to you if you want. Speed up to about 90 mph --pretty
efficient and fast without having to add a gazillion horsepower. A friend
had a 1996 23 Magician (same bottom as the Sleek Sundance and it ran
about 78 or 79 mph with a stock Merc 502 mAG 415 HP.
I also know where there is a 1974 Campbell 21' V drive with an L-88 454
in great shape for about $10,000 but it won't see 100 mph in this lifetime.
