Big Block Chevy

Need some help..Just picked up a big block chevy for my jet. Guy i bought it from didn't know what cubic inch it was...396,454,427, etc. The number on the block is 3999290. On the front of the block it says hi per pass. Any help identifying this block would be a great help. I know there are some books out there that tell ID with the casting number..thanks,,,glen

3999290....396.......68-69...2 or 4 bolt, Truck
3999290....402.......70-72...2 or 4 bolt, Truck
3999290....402.......72......2 or 4 bolt, Passenger

Every Chevy BB had HIGH PERF PASS cast into it. As you can tell from what HB said, there are a few different variations that used the same block.

Oh yeah, I'm putting my money on it being a 396. They were way more common than the 402.
