Can't help you with Studio. I have a Pinnacle DV500 card and Adobe Premiere and it took me a long time to get it right. I ended up building a dedicated computer just for video editing, but now it's fun. Once you really start playing with it you can make all sorts of cool stuff, get a DVD burner and you're dialed! Remeber, video takes up huge amounts of space, so you need extra hard drives. Hope I didn't rain on your parade too hard...

You might be better off calling customer support. Some of that software can get a little complicated. I've called CS on other software issues and they walked me right through it on the phone. Good luck

Does the program startup?

yes if your camera can play back on your PC the video you took
Yes open Pinnacle , choose the Capture tab , then click the setup tab , select the capture source (Your Camera) then click OK .
click start capture and start the playback with the camera .
not knowing exactly what you have to work with I'm kinda stabbing in the dark as to what you can do with what you have .
hope this helps

It's just my reg. digital camera ( that I take pics on) I am using that has an option to take video. Do I need a different camera to be able to do it??? I can't find anything on page 21, 22 or 23 that says anything.

Bre, do you know what format your camera saves the video as? Is it a .mov or .mpg or something like that? If it is already in one of those formats you don't need to capture anything, just skip to the edit step and open the file. This is a screen shot from Pinnacle 8, but 9 may be the same, just go to the Edit tab, and click on the folder icon to the right of the drop down box and it will bring up a file browser that will allow you to select the movie from your drive. i.e.:

There maybe a way to do it from a digital camera but it doesn't look like there is from the book. I think it will have to do woth how the camera is connected to the computer. If it has a 1394 (firewire) you may be able to get it to work but from the looks of it if its USB it won't work.

Pinnacle should support AVI's, but you would need to have whatever codec it is compressed in installed on your system. Can you open that video and play it in Windows Media Player? If so you have the codec installed. I know Studio (at least version 8) is pretty buggy and has problems with large files so that may be the issue.

That is just a test to see if you have the proper codec installed, if video 002.avi plays fine in the Windows player then you have the codec.
You may want to try renaming the file and take out the space, i.e. video002.avi Some programs don't like spaces in file names. Also do you know how large the file is?

.avi won't play in pinnacle. When I copy 100+ meg movies from my digital video camara they all get saved as a .wmv.... Windows Movie Maker only does certain types also.

My camera is a Canon and creates MJPEG files in the form of .avi. Studio 8 could open them but it never worked properly. That's why I dropped it and will not upgrade unless I know it's going to work properly on Win2K.
If someone gets Pinnacle Studio 9 working with MJPEG files out of a Canon still camera, I'd like to hear about it.

Double click on the My Computer icon on your desktop, that will also bring up Windows Explorer to allow you to rename.
Based on what Tom and KF are saying though it sounds like the AVI files that your camera creates are most likely not compatible with pinnacle, so the rename probably won't help. There are programs to convert video to different formats but they are hard to use and produce mixed results. Tom, did you find an editor that works better for you?
