Does any one have a ECM for a 1998 Chevy 7.4 L or know where I can get one besides the dealer?

It's my everyday driver. I installed mt hypertech in it on saterday like I have a 100 times. When I went back out there to disconnect it the hypertech was dead and so was the ECM. I had my mech. come over with the scaner and found the ECM had no data. Hooked up the hypertech again and it said the ECM was blank.

that sucks, I was gonna tell you that the pcm was covered for 8 years 80,000 miles. Anyway, you can kill a pcm if you have an electrical surge or irregularity while programming. I have had one die on me in my years of programming. I would see if your buddy can flash a stock program into it if he has a tech 2. If not, take the pcm to a dealer that has an off board programming adapter and have them give it a shot. I think napa has these. They also sell new pcm's. They are not too terribly expensive (I think). Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

No way man you tried and I thank you for that. My cousin runs the service side of a chevy dealer in mesa az. and he told me the same thing you just told me. I'm go to the dealer he worked for out here because he still has some buddies that work there on monday to try to reprogram the one I have. If that does'nt work I will have to buy one. I fond one on E-bay for $9.99 but the seller did not say what it came out of or if it was even good anymore. Also I have a 1996 dually at my work I can use for parts. If the part number on the comp. matches mine I can program that one. I think? Anyway thanks again for your help. B

Well made some phone calls and the truck has to go to the dealer for them to reprogram the PCM, min. 2 hours labor for a total of $154.00. That's if the ROM is not bad. If it is bad I need a new PCM. Wish me luck.

Well got the truck back form the dealer and they said that the volts were low on my battery. That's what took out the PCM. when I used the hypertech and that was enough to wipe out the computer. So over all a new batt. is cheaper than new computer.

Glad to hear it! I'm supposed to check battery voltage before flashing a computer. But, with most of the cars I work on being brand new, that check often gets skippe. :squiggle:
