Mercruiser 496 Mag, Bravo one outdrive - 40 hours
I am having it serviced.
Should I have them pull the drive for an inspection and repacking, or is it overkill. It has never been done before.

I sure hope B&D Marine is doing your service! Anyone else in the area is second best...IMHO.

Definitely have your outdrive pulled. More often than not, your outdrive will be out of alignment from the manufacturer,,,,,
Mine was,,

I am going with Alco in Havasu, I have heard pretty good things about them.
Thanks!

Yes, have them pull it and check it for sure! They are top dollar but do good work, not always on time though, in my experience.

I would think that is part of the 40 hr service.

That is a part of the 20 hour inspection, I'd definitely have them do it... to check alignment if nothing else.

definitely pull the drive. The alignment is freequently off due to the engine settling into position. Only takes about 1 hour from the time they start until the drive is being put back on so shouldn't cost very much and is a saver because if the outdrive is out of alignment it will really screw things up.

Just had mine done at 20 hr service. It says nowhere in the merc manual that you need a 20 hr service, but I did the same thing and came on the boards to see what everyone's opinion was. I did do the 20 hr and went with absolute speed and marine in havasu and was very pleased with them. They did pull the outdrive and greased some stuff , changed the oil ,fuel seperator oil filter and some other stuff, also changed the drive oil for 315.00 he told me that the drive was perfect from the factory ( LAVEY). So I guess the ansewr to your question is might as well do it for the piece of mind.

...pretty funny, tcook33 called me yesterday and asked if I thought it should be done. I said no, just hope something breaks before the warranty is up :D
