After pulling the steering assy/nozzel off of boat the other day I noticed that the exit side of my bowl is larger than the entrance to the steering housing, is this normal? The exit of my bowl measures 6.250", and the housing mates up just fine, but there is .370" from the inside of the gasket to the opening of the housing which is apprx 5.475" and then chokes down even smaller before entering the nozzel. This can't be right can it? I mean the water exiting the bowl has to slam right into a .370" lip around the housing while trying to exit. I hope I explained this good enough to paint the picture for you guys. Help!

I Kinda Picture What Your Talking About.some People Use Nozzles Reducers To Tune Their Thrust, and Those Have A Pretty Big Lip On Them Too.can You Trim It So It Directs Thrust Over It?maybe Ramp It Or Something.

No, it's not a nozzel reducer. I could throw the nozzel away and I would still have this problem. The exit flow is hitting a .370" lip on the nozzel/steering housing itself. There's just no way this can be right.

Bolt it on, scribe a line to match the edge, remove it, and bevel it to match.

I hear ya smokinglowrider, and I have a die grinder but I was thinking that maybe I have the wrong housing. Do these things come in different sizes? Surely the factory didn't design it this way.

Do you have enough meat inside your nozzle to have a machine shop "funnel" the inside? It should be pretty easy for them to chuck it up in a lathe and turn down the inside. Think of the inside of a fire nozzle....you may become rich with your new invention!
Where are you located? What type of bowl & nozzle?

I am in Arkansas
The bowl is a Dominator and the steering housing is a dominator but I don't think they are of the same age.

I have a dominator pump.It has a droop snoot with place divirter. When I look inside the droop to the steering nozzle it looks like a big step also.I was questioning it too.

Thanks Vic, I may take you up on that. I guess I'll call on of the experts and ask them what they think. I thought maybe one of them might chime in here but no luck yet.

Can ya maybe point out where you see this lip? I will be working on my boat today and I will take a look for this lip on mine. Im running a Dominator pump with a droop and a place.

I pulled my droop snoot off with the steering nozzle attached. When I looked down the droop it looks like a flat wall the water has to slam into.I am sure there is an expert that knows if it is possible to blend this area for a smoother transition.

I will try to take a picture of it today or tomorrow and put it up. I am having a hard time explaining myself with the keyboard as I am not much of a writer.

I am talking about a stock steering housing. Okay, picture this. If you lay the gasket that goes between the steering housing and the bowl on the steering housing on my housing there is .370" of aluminum between the edge of the gasket and the opening into the steering housing, so I have a column of water that is 6.250" in diameter exiting my bowl that is abruptly slamming into an opening that is only 5.475" and then chokes down even more from there before entering the nozzle.
I can't believe not one single pump guy has responded to this thread, WTF?? Do you have to be a regular on here before you are worthy? Come guys I need some help here, hell I'll even spend some money getting the right parts if I have to. This is getting VERY frustrating.
Thank you to those who have offered ideas and help. I will try to get some pics.

I hope so!
You might have a early model nozzle housing with a 5.50" bowl register and a late model bowl 6.25" dia. register. The early Dominator bowl had a smaller discharge diameter.

Thank you very much American turbine man. So, is it just as simple as buying a late model Dominator housing? If I run across a used one does it have to be Dominator or will a Berk piece work? Do you sell new ones and if so how much are they? Thanks again!!
