Can I run a fuel filter before a mechanical pump? I have a real good canister filter. Im just wondering if my pump will draw fuel through my filter?

I run one before and after, you cannot be too safe. I run electrical but dont know why it would hurt a mechanical or be any different.

I am running a canister style fuel filter before a mechanical pump & it draws no problem.

Most filters are made to be pushed thru not drawn thru. Check with the manufacturer first before you put one before the pump.

My trusty Clay Smith 140gph mechanical draws through 2 fuel filters/water separaters (one for each tank and I draw from both tanks at once) with no problem whatsoever. Been doing it this way for a while and have never had a problem.

I tried to hook it up this way once. It filled the filter but wouldn't draw it to the carbs. I will try it again. The filter I have is a Big Mercruiser Style. It will take up to a 3/4 pipe.

My jet draws through one wix fuel filter/water separator from two tanks at the same time with no problem.
My Schiada draws from the tanks on both sides, through two big wix fuel filters/water separators and into the pump with no problem.
Both are the Holley street style mechanical pumps. :D
