Is there any difference between mercury high performance gear lube and quicksilver gear lube? the guy at the boat store told me that quicksilver is the same and its the new mercury packaging. I dont want to mix oils.

Quicksilver and Mercury are the same but don't confuse the high performance lube with the premium lube.

The high performance is a sythetic blend. That's what I run in my drive. You can mix them though, shouldn't hurt anything.

The high performance gear lube is a synthetic blend and the premium lube is a stardard oil (GL5) for the older model drives. Quicksilver is Mercury's brand like AC Delco is to GM. Mercury does not recomend you mix the two, but it is probably ok in a pinch.

i have found in my expersence to stick with the same oil for start to finish. my old boat had over 800hr on the drive and never had a any troble. but it was allways used the same oil from dy one and changed twice a year.
