Does anyone know what the max bore size is on a 454 block casting #14015445. Im looking at one the is .060 over now and im wondering if how much more you can go.

Have it sonic checked, that'll give you an idea how far you can go beyond what it is now.
I've been told .060 is as far as you want to go without having the block checked out.

I posted this same ? before I bought my merlin block. I was told that some blocks could go to .100 over. Had it Sonic checked and core shift/sloppy machine work put the thing to bed for what I was planning on using it for.

Generally .060 over no problem. The next shelf piston size is .090 (in a forged type unless you have custom made. Then you can do .065 or .070).
I've run many at .100 over. But I considered that the end. There are block that have gone .125.
But the main deal is you are starting out with a .060 over block. Unless it is fresh bored and honed at .060, your giving up some life down the road. So, I'd try to find one better.

According to that part number it is a 78 to 90 block which is not an early thick wall block, I would get it sonic checked before considering it and providing it would clean up at .090, and that is only if you're planning on a mild application. If you're planning on some serious power, I would pass on it!....Just my worthless .02......

So what block is needed for a bore size of like 4.56. Ive seen where some are bored this big.

The largest I have heard of is a .120 I would say that's pushng it without major reinforcement. I run a .60 over and I am not concerned with putting a lot of power through it.

I've done .125 over for hot street cars with 250 N2O shot in 69 chevelle with 14 in rear tires and no heat problems, but boat is more continous stress and wouldn't do it even with a .400 longer rod. the side loading would be a little much with the cylinder pressures. I've seen quite a few 454 trucks lose cylinder walls from extended towing, makes a mess. a good block is cheap compared to prices of the parts that get ruined by its failure. I learned long ago to take the time and do the job 1 time right and I wouldn't have to take the time to do it over. the 4.5 blocks are the bowtie blocks I believe and not regular production blocks.

The bowtie, Merlin, Dart and other aftermarket blocks with siameze bores.
