I have a 1986 Eliminator Sprint.(Very sleek boat, low to the water, not a deep v at all) Berkley 12JG jet. Not sure on the impeller cut at this point, driven by a Chevy BB 496, Dart Aluminum Heads, Dart tunnel ram intake, dual 650 Mighty Demon carbs, Comp Cams roller assembly, JE Pistons, set at 9:1 compression. Dyno tests pushing 650 hp. I had the boat out 2 weeks ago and I hit 71mph.(the only thing was that at the time I could not adjust my diverter so it was set stationary). Now my question is where do I need to start to increase my speed? I haven't done anything with the jet itself. There is no ride plate on the jet now. Bought it without it on. So where do I go next? Any suggestions? Just my opinion but I think it should have more than 71mph. I think just making a few passes with the diverter at different angles will give me different results. Just looking for some suggestions since I know little about the jet itself.

post pix of whereit is riding inthe water at top speed. You also need to check the loader grate If it is a ski grate get a new one with blocker. Ride plates are good.

What RPM did you make 650hp? What RPM can the motor spin at WOT?

This will bring out more info for everyone to shoot you some good feedback. But knowing about your style of hull, and assuming that the 650hp is being made at or below 6k, something is definitely wrong with the pump or setup. With an honest 500hp, that boat should be running that speed at a minimum.
Post up some more detailed info and you should get some more feedback.
Good luck,
Chris

The best money I ever spent on my boat was at MPD. I was stuck at 68mph and after Jack worked on my pump I've recorded a best of 77mph. I'm running a 18' Southwind with 485HP.

I like to hear that my money is going to make a impact on the Sanger.
Thank you Jack @ MPD for all the great work.

The grate I have is just the standard flat rock grate. Should I be looking for something more like this:http://www.cpperformance.com/detail.aspx?ID=3282

Take out the motor.
Sell the boat.
Buy a nice flatbottom or runnerbottom.
Put the motor in it.
You will see 80+ no problem.

The boat I have almost is a flat bottom........exaggerating a little but it doesn't have much of a V at all. Very low profile.

More info would be great like is it a c or g bowl, does it have a droop, any wedges in it.There are plenty of guys here that can offer up some good ideas just hang tight.Dont sell the jet no mater what cause when it is set up properly you will hand it to 70% of the flattys out there in a river race.

Ditch the rock grate. Take your pump and intake out this winter and have the intake machined for a rideplate and shoe. Get your pump checked out to make sure you are running the right cut impeller to match your motors HP. Then install the correct intake grate (pump builder could recommend a good one for your setup) If your turning the HP your saying and you have the right impeller, you should see 85-90mph. The next step would be seeing how much hook you have in the hull and having that removed.

After the Crusader is done I am building a capsule hydro. Blown injected of course. Jets will still be my river boats. Too shallow for V drives in my section of river

"Jets will still be my river boats."
Moneysucker, before you sell your soul to the devldrive. Take a ride in a really fast jet. Then tell me why run anything else? River or big lake...I run both. And yes, I know you ran 100 mph in your jet.
Lawler, I ran 75 mph in a low profile jet with a detuned 454 (28 BTDC) putting out at true 380 lake hp. Now I run 100 mph with a 540 putting out a true 650 lake hp. (dyno 760 hp) Although mine's a tunnel, it's certainly not lightweight or "race" configured. My point is, I think your sprint jet and engine have potential.
But are your numbers right? 9:1 compression and 650 hp? If so like Brenella first mentioned, where does it peak and what impeller mfg, size and rpm are you running now? Answers to those questions key...the bottom line. Very important to present or future performance. More important than details on piston mfg or roller type or on and on.
Also of course your ride and divertor "stuck" angle. Fix it. Then try different trim angles. Then get back to us. There's no way for us to know what angle it's stuck at or how much added drag that may or may not be costing you.
Finally, rock grate? That link you supplied shows a couple loader pictures, but they're not "rock" grates.

Rock grat meaning jail house. I am sure the first ride I go in in a Vdrive will be mine. That is the way I do things I buy it then learn how to ride/drive it. WOrked for jet boat, wakeboard, jet ski, motorcycle. I don't like to wreck other peoples stuff. If I can't afford it I don't need to drive it. My soul isn't for sale anyways I don't have the pink slip. The devil is carying a first and second mortgage on it. I got damn near $30 for it.

9:1 is correct. The grate I have is not the same as the one I posted. My grate is just a flat grate. I was told that they were called rock grates, but anyway I was asking if the loader grate was something I should be looking into.
I think I've got quite a few things to mess with.....we'll see how things go and I'll get back to you all. Thanks for the info. Very helpful!!
I will post pictures of my boat soon.

Lawler, The guys are very correct about needing mor info on your motor/pump setup to tell a whole lot. Now I'll tell you a cheap little deal I tried while my PD was off getting repaired. I was stuck at 66 MPH @ 5100 with a standard nozzle and jailhouse grate. I put a Rex Loader (the cheap one) for a JG on and +4 wedge. then the boat would run 70 @5000. It Carried the bow much lighter and seemed to turn in a bit better. Everything that has been suggested are great ideas, This was something I tried that worked for less than $100. If the bottom is hooked bad it may not work as well if at all. BTW I'm running approx 200 hp less than you without n2o. Also the speed and rpm #'s I told you were without n2o, Just motor.

Buy a 19' Eagle Sport with full interior, glass and a stock 355 hp ZZ4 crate motor with a stock Berkley pump, add 15 gallons of gas a 70 lb dog and 3 adults and big cooler of beer and go 70 MPH. Why does everyone want to try to go fast with 20/30 year old boats?

Mike, if 550 hp gives me 100 mph in my tunnel, then 650 should give you 107 mph for sure.

Here's a 572/720 crate motor boat buzzing by us at 113 mph (testing).

JungleBoy, very impressive. To run those numbers I'd have to loose about 300 lbs. Your small block gets you 100 lbs, the other 200 in the hull? Other things equal (big if)...like hull and pump efficiency, gas load, etc. I have a heavy layup so maybe it's a weight issue. What's your hull weigh?

Jungle Boy
09-12-2004, 04:36 AM
The pleasure boat would weigh in at about 1750 lbs with no passengers but with 30 glns or so of gas. The race boats with small block are around 1650/1700 with fuel.
