-- In an even more twisted version of "man bites dog," an East Providence man was arrested Thursday night after allegedly being caught having sex with his friends' dachshund.
And, according to police, the man had been found having a similar sexual encounter three months earlier with the family's other dog, a pit bull.
Rolland L. Miller Jr., 39, who had been living at 112 Sherman St. in Riverside, was arrested on charges of abominable/detestable crimes against nature and mistreatment against animals after the homeowner reported the incident to East Providence police.
According to Major Donald Dubois, Miller, who is reportedly an alcoholic, was temporarily living with the family that owns the two dogs.
One of the family members told police that about three and a half months ago, Miller was discovered on the floor inside the house having a sexual encounter with the family's pit bull.
The family didn't report the incident, but warned Miller to stay away from the dogs, Dubois said.
However, on Thursday night, police say the family went out and Miller was left alone in the house.
When they returned at around 10 p.m., there was no sign of the dachshund.
Upon searching the house, one of the family members opened a bedroom door and allegedly found Miller in bed, having sexual relations with the animal.
Dubois declined to provide the family's name, saying they had been besieged with phone calls and requests for media interviews since the information was first read in the courtroom during Miller's arraignment.
He said that among those living in the house were a grandmother, her child and a spouse, and two young children, and that it was the grandmother who had offered Miller a place to stay.
