Not to familiar with cam sizes for marine use..I am now ordering parts to rebuild my new 454..The other one as some of you know blew up!! well its just going to be stock. I am ordering the Deluxe Master Rebuild Kit From PAW. With the TRW Forged Pistons. It has a Edelbrock intake RPM, Holley 750 Vaccum Second CArb. Other than that its pretty much stock. I need to know what size cam is good for a marine application..and what will work best for more bottom and top end.

What ,compression,heads,intake,impeller??????
If your 9.5-1 then dont go above 230@.50 because you will never spinn the r's to make the power. that is rule of thumb.
My ols is 230@.050,110 lobe,.490 lift and it is a neck snapper. The compression is 9.5-1 with a tunnel ram,2- holley 600's and stock heads. i spin 4700r's all day long.
Hope this helps.

with a few more details and someone can help. Do you run an I/O?
Marine cams are mostly the same but you need to match the duration to your RPM range. Typically split duration w/ higher lift on exhaust.

they are the stock 454 heads oval port with the big valves. it is an I/O Cast#289 Block..Not sure what the compression was but I am going to run 9:5:1 now. I am getting a new 454 longblock core through my company.. because the prick I bought the boat from had it set up wrong had a huge deep sump pan in it thinking it was a 5qt..but its actually what looks about 8. so it had no pressure to pick up the oil...and blew it!!! I put about 2 hrs on it.

A Crane 731 hydraulic roller would be a good cam.

I'm running part # CRN-139731, a hydraulic roller from Crane, in my 454 and really like it. Idles well, minimum maintenance, good midrange. Recommended CR of 9.5:1 to 11:1.

Sorry, should have clarified.... not stock. B&M 174 blower, SpeedPro #2453 blower pistons, GM cast #14097088 heads, MSD ignition. Sits in a 26 foot Wellcraft Nova, similar to an early Scarab.
