This State ****ing sucks. I'm moving.
SACRAMENTO – Even as Congress allowed a federal ban on assault weapons to expire Monday, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed legislation strengthening California laws restricting the sales of high-powered rifles.
The signing of AB 50, by Assemblyman Paul Koretz, D-West Hollywood, bans the sale of .50-caliber BMG rifles. The move stands in sharp contrast to the decision of Republican leaders in Congress not to renew a 10-year-old federal ban on assault weapons.
Gun control advocates say the measure makes California a national leader in improving public safety.
"California has once again confirmed its status as a bellwether state in preventing gun violence," said Tom Diaz of the Violence Policy Center in Washington, D.C. "Today's action not only protects the police and public, but stops the sale of a confirmed tool of terrorists. We look forward to other states, and eventually the U.S. Congress, following its lead."
Opponents of the controls say there is no evidence the guns have been used in criminal activity.

Hey, did you guys know that our super elite socialist law makers here in California wrote into the "carrying a concealed weapon" law a provision that states that your first offence is a misdemeanor??
Thought you'de like to know. So if you're not already a felon you can go ahead and carry protection without fear of becoming a felon:)

Nothing to hunters, as that round would destroy an animal (or human).
But it is used in the sport of Long Distance Target shooting.
Really makes no sense.

not a thing for hunters, just the long range competitions that kindsvater is talking about... That and it is easier to ban others once a precedence has been set. Next stop, grandpa's Ol' 30-30

I agree. Banning something as rediculous as the 50 bmg will only lead to future weapons being banned, including my hunting rifles. Whats next are they gonna take Bow and arrows away from us. Pretty soon I'll being going deer hunting with a knife. I can see it now, jumping from a tree onto a nice buck and restling him to ground and slitting his throat. Sounds kinda like one of the governaters movies.

The biggest problem with "gun control" is that the guns are not the problem, it's the shooters. Why won't the politicians and special interests listen, why do they believe that by eliminating gun ownership by honest law abiding citizens, that the gang bangers, murderers and thieves will stop carrying as well. Misguided attempt at humoring the special interest IMO.

That's the point right there Scream. Criminals do not abide by laws, let alone gun laws. Too bad the general public has been fooled into the "guns are bad" mentallity.

Gotta love your optimism Mirvin. I think pigs will be flying and cows will be driving long before the "wacky socialist dems" are voted out of the State Legislature.
I heard that John and Ken (radio knuckleheads here in SoCal) are going after a couple of Republican legislators for not doing enough to protect our borders and cut down on illegal immigration. If that's true what they're doing is just like the California legislature taking guns away for law abiding citizens to stop crime - you're punishing the WRONG PEOPLE!

I'm just wondering why you would seriously want a .50 cal rifle/machine gun? I shot these weapons alot in the Marines. We shot H.E.I (high explosive incendiary) and A.P.I (armour piercing incendiary) rounds alot out of the machine guns, they are a friggin awesome weapon. the ammo alone is very expensive.
I had a friend that had a .50 Barrett sniper rifle we used to shoot up in cleveland national forest years ago. Now you really can't shoot a weapon like that anywhere. I had a Desert Eagle .50 cal pistol. What a beast that thing was. Got rid of it, rounds were over $1.00 each!!
to each his own, I just think that's alot of weapon for hunting or target shooting.

England has made a big deal over banning guns and knives. They have actually melted down classic gun and knife collections to prevent them from getting into misguided hands.
Crime rates have actually gone up, especially violent crime. They know that the local cops cannot hurt them, while they have no compulsion against the use of weapons, legal or not. Look at the number of bombings and other crimes of violence in England. Our system would be a lot more effective if the criminals were not given such babying by the courts. They are getting ready to release an 18 year old for good behavior after two years in 'rehabilitation'. He killed a 71 year old man in a crime spree.

I seriously doubt it, especially from a CCW issued from Utah. I mean no offense, being a former Utard myself. I had a Utah CCW when I lived there, and now hold an AZ CCW, and the ease of aquiring the Utah one is probably the reason some states fail to grant reciprocity. Arizona requires a 16 hour course, including range time in order to receive a CCW. Utah required me to meet with an instructor for approximately 20 minutes and discuss use of force laws and scenarios with him. After that, I paid my 50 bucks, got fingerprinted, and was out the door with an approved application to turn into the state. Kinda scary if you ask me..

They are quite common for long range shooting competitions (1000 M and such). And are definately a rush to shoot... it's amazing what these things will penetrate
