Well heres the deal. I got this estimate today. Does this look normal as far as labor goes. Mind you this car is paid off and I've taken immaculate car with service records and everything!

First off, the fact that it's a hand written deal kind of scares me. The fact that the handwriting looks like that of a 4th grader, give or take a grade or two. And the hours they have figured in for labor??? I don't think my shop gets 17.5 hours to do a total overhaul on a Series 60 Detroit. Looks like almost 3 hours labor to change a fan belt??? I'd look at another shop and see what they have to say. :D
Or maybe I'm just in the wrong business.

Yeah I agree with you guys. I think Im just gonna buy a new car. What a crock!
Oh yeah they are called technitions now adays not mechanics...maybe thats why they get so much???

The MBZ forums kick a s s. You can find some good info there and quite a few of these geeks really know their stuff. There's a lot of So Cal peeps on there - and I'm sure they can guide you in the right direction.
MBZ are bitchen cars - until something breaks! :hammer2: :hammer2:

Are you sure that is a Mercedes dealer, I have seen a hand written receipt since last time I was at the pawn......nevermind....
What dealership is that.....Hand written....

They refer to the MBZ dealership as the "stealership" - for good reason!!!

Yeah Jordy, you're in the wrong Biz- :D
Them Benzes are a bit more tight than them ol' trucks where you can climb into the engine compartment :D :D
Gotta take it half apart just to get to something. I once heard an estimate for a Waterpump on a Porsche was around $3k...buried little biatch.
.
Deano, you might be able to negotiate that estimate. They most likely go to the high side to replace incidentals as they go along for that job. Bummer deal man, even my BMW's don't have estimates like that.
.
Looking at that estimate, I'd guess they are at about $110 per hour labor..maybe even more, ~$115.

NOPE, MB is dropping their free maintenance program as of 05 models--no more free ride with them.

Hey Deano what's happening? Do yourself a favor and skip the Range Rover, they are worst than Mercedes. The problem with European cars is they are all so exspensive to work on, and don't exactly have the best track record when it comes to reliability. Why not get her an X5?

unleashed
09-15-2004, 07:24 PM
Yeah I was not to sure on the range Rover thing. I'll mention that to her. Maybe the X5 would be a good choice for her. We'll start shopping next week. This weekend gonna checkout golfcarts for her.

Second "PLACE"

Hey Unleashed--
I work in the service deptartment of a Mercedes-Benz dealer. That estimate
seems a little higher than normal no doubt, but all of those items being needed
do not suprise me. I may be able to help you, but I would need to know the exact year, model and production date.

Second "PLACE"
09-16-2004, 03:16 PM
Well if you like the E-55, hold on because the repairs for THAT car costs even more! German cars unfortunately cost big bucks, but they sure haul
ass ! Thank the lord that  Germany does not build sport boats, or performance Marine Engines !

Thanks for the offer I think I may be going car shopping though. Its a bummer though as I have taken care of this car extremely well. Its never missed a service, oil changed every 3000 miles always garaged etc. I hate to see her go but 9000 is ridiculous, even more insulting is they said they'd give me 5000 as trade in value(I laughed in there faces and told them they just lost a customer!). Thanks again Second place for the thought! Oh and Ziggy I may be giving you a call.

Nice Lorinser there unleashed. What year...99? details details
Geesh, just parting the thing out would probaby fetch you almost double what the stealership is offering.
