First, what was considered unsafe about your boating? Did you not have a warning flag that said you either had a rope in the water or skier down.
Second what lake was this?

I would take the ticket and be happy the dumb ass didnt run your wife over. I have never seen or heard of a boat cutting across the line

Wasn't the bass boater being unsafe passing so close to another vessel. Isn't it a 100' of something. I'd fight it.

Pulling out of a cover is very dangerous, even more so pulling a skier , tube, etc.. If memory serves correctly there were a few people killed at the river last year under some similiar situations....

robSome more information would help... What exactly does it say on your ticket? (That is, what part of the boating code, or vehicle code, or state statutes, or whatever did you get cited for?) :)

Well i went down to D.O.C office at the lake today and talked to another officer who took me to talk to his boss and they called in the guy that wrote me the ticket so i could talk to him when i asked him why i got a ticket he said son do you not understand you could have killed that lady there is no excuse for you getting that close they only had a sixty foot rope and we have it you hit the rope almost dead middle which means you were within 30 feet of there boat
after he finishes i told him that the rope he has is the rope i unhooked from my boat and gave to him and that im not the one that hit the rope i was the one pulling the rope after a little talk about me getting mad and loud he told me he was sorry bought me a pop and took the ticket away and told me he would take care of getting the ticket to the right person
and he told me to go buy a new rope and bring in a ticket for it and that they would make sure that it goes in the file so i get my money back
so who makes the most $$$$ rope out there im going to get a good one this time lol

I think one of the best ropes is the Spectra rope.
Good work on getting the ticket pulled.

WTF? You had a discussion with the LE person who wrote the ticket, and he confused you with the person that should have gotten the ticket?
At the scene, you gave him your severed rope and he wrote you the ticket?

I just want to be clear here. Was this LE watching you undo the cut rope from your boat and you handed it to him?

That happened to a friend of mine a few years ago. It was an off duty cop the ran over his ski rope, pulled his challenger backwards long enough to SINK it, then tried to use his badge to place blame on the friend. It all got straightened out, as in your case, just glad no one was hurt........MP

same-kinda scenario that moneypit listed:
I watched a lo-pro boat get submerged at Whiskeytown once..
they people had been out skiing.... once finished for their runs, they went
back to their beach-camp. the rope was still behind the boat 100'. it was
a floating rope........
along came a freind of ours, and he didn't see the rope... ran right over it,
it wrapped around his outdrive, and it pulled hte lo-pro right off the beach and
sunk it like in 2 seconds in about 6 feet of water.......... the dude was PISSED. but, we all indicated it was his fault for leaving the rope out there..
(not too sure about laws of driving within 100' of shore back in mid 70's....)
anyway, we got about 10 guys together, and picked up the whole boat high
enough to begin bailing it out...... in 20 minutes the boat was back on the
water, we towed him to the ramp, loaded him up, and then drained his
oil, flushed the water out of the block, flushed his tanks, and had it running
in about 2 hours..... he was back on the water..........
