Wanna see a rooster tail?
And they polished out the whole damn thing! The guy who polished it is in a pic. He`s gotta be toast after that!

jroos, What do think of the tin boat around that nasty turbine. I was hanging around the shop the day Rob and Dale were fitting it. It is a crazy set up. Not for every one that's for sure. These are great boats and I'm suprised that more of you southern guys don't get in to this stuff.

I am impressed by the technology that went into this boat! But a turbine driven jet pump in a polished aluminum hull?!? Those Canadians have WAY too much time on their hands!!!
Something doesn't add up though. That engine puts out nearly 1400 hp, is hooked to a custom jet pump and goes a mind boggling...
-75 mph-
But it makes a GREAT BIG EGO BOOSTING ROOSTER TAIL!!!
Typical jet boat. All show, no go.
I gotta admit, that polished aluminum hull is pretty cool!

driveless, I don't think that the 75 mph was stated as the top speed, just the speed of his fly-by. I would be interested to see how fast it goes... and how much it cost.

75 mph is the only speed posted on the 'Squirt 2' page, so I am assuming that is as fast as it has gone so far... maybe they are still working out the bugs. http://free.***boat.net/ubb/rolleyes.gif
'Squirt 1' sped along at 60 mph while it's Allison T63 turbine consumed 15 gal/hr of kerosene. Not bad considering... Maybe someone 'in the know' can post some real speed numbers for these boats.

I think this is thats guys second attempt at doing one of these boats. I believe it is a show piece and not really made to go. I can assure you that these boats are made to go, not show. My 19 ft is powered by a 383 sbc stroker with 465 Hp and runs 86 - 88 mph on a good day ay 3800 ft with pump gas. I have buddies that have Pro-Charged SBC's in these boats that can run 100 mph all day long. I will try to scan a couple of pictures and post them later, if I can figure it out.

Got to apreciate the technology that went into this beast. From that standpoint alone it's pretty awsome. And just think, you can take this out to Havasu on a nice sunny day and cook your meals on the deck.

Hey dankirk,
In one of the videos on his site, Nye (the guy who built it) states the motor alone cost 30,000 bucks....

So what was the actual speed #'s this boat put up?

I am no rocket surgeon hehe... but doesn't it say that turbine spins at 20500 RPM and then gear reduced down to 4 or 5 thousand??? With 1400 horsepower you should be able to spin that boats impellor as fast as you dare with a different gear reduction. Someone is just going to have to come up with a A-6 impellor or something. Hats off to this guy that drive train is outrageous and mostly hand fitted.

Hell, if that thing only pulled 45 mph it would still have a cool factor of 11!! Just the sound of it is crazy!! Now that's a real JET boat!! I'm POSITIVE it can do a lot more than 75!

Just an anal technical correction from an aviation guy.... Squirt 1 was/is powered by an Allison 250, like the one in a Bell jet ranger or hughes/MD 500. Squirt 2 has a lycoming T53 like the huey. So there.

Oh wait! I bet all it needs is an Aggressor bowl and it'll do 800mph! How could we be so silly?!

skeep: I don't know anything about turbines, I was just taking data from the website.
http://www.gas-turbines.com/allison.htm
says that it is an Allison T63.
I love the squirt1 video! It sounds like something Batman and Robin would cruise around in. It appears to HAUL ASS as it makes a right turn leaving the dock. What brand of hull do you think squirt 1 is??

Jungle Boy

I'm pretty sure that squirt 1 was an Eagle hull also. I remember Rob from Eagle telling me about it one night a bottle of rum.

75 mph I`m sure was just a test run. When they get the bugs out, SSSSHHHHAAAAZZZZAAAAMMMM! This bitch is gonna fly! I think they are gonna need an intake diverter or scoop. The noise from the turbine sucking in air has gotta be high frequency ear deafining!

Jungle Boy, turbines are for ultra rich folk! There are a few turbine guys around but they are in offshore rigs. Turbine with a jet? Gotta get one of those! POLISHED! Man, they need a different gear reducer. This thing oughta top 150 with ease. Oh and by the way, I can assure you that the motor cost more than 30G.

Nobody has mentioned Flash Gordon's twin-turbine boat. 200+mph.

FassssssstDave... (but not THAT fast!)

Here is what Mark Nye responded with when I asked him how fast the boat goes and what it cost:
"Top speed is unknown (I am afraid to floor it). 90 mph is the fastest I have been so far. I have spent around $100,000.00 plus a huge amount of time.

Hi Guys,Squirt 1 is a 1980 19ft Ranger by General Marine (fiberglass hull). The engine is an Allison T63-A-700 (250-C18). It's rated at 317HP @ 6016 rpm and weighs 135 lbs. Top speed is 70mph.
Squirt 2 is a 2000 23ft Eagle Step Tech. The engine is a GE T58-8F out of a Sea-King helicopter. It's rated at 1370 hp @ 20,000 rpm and weighs 350 lbs. I have a gear box that reduces output to 6000 rpm. I have never run the boat at full power and I wont until I get some more seat time.

I must have had more rum than I thought. What kind of pump/impeller did you install? Does the power come on slow or hard. It is a cool ride.

I have spoken with Nye...we shared ideas and did some mutual testing testing together, as we were both building turbine boats at the same time.
Our turbine boat makes 1350 ponies, and goes 145mph, but it screw driven. I have to dis-agree about the price tho...500 to 1700hp used turbines can be had from $3000. We got our Avco-Lycomming T-53 for only $7000.
You can check it out at the web page listed in my profile.
BTW...we also have a 77 Cheatha w/500+hp 460 Ford/Berkley "AA"...goes about 72mph.

I don't know why everyone (2guys) thinks I said the turbine cost 30000 bucks! I said I know the guys who build the hulls. And I donĀ“t need a turbine to go 75 mph. But if you turbine guys would like to take me for a ride, I'll go, after you get some seat time!
