Hello I am new to v drives, switch from the jets. problem is I have been told that 20 cruiser needs the v drive and strut moved forward.
has anyone outsource this job and what did it cost to complete.
my boat seems to lift the transom and throws it side ways.
I know that I need to learn about cav plate setting but this wasn't even above 4500RPM's
any info would be appreciated

I don't know crap about V'drives, but you might try switching to a 2 blade prop to get less lift. If the driveline angles are off, they're off and the prop switch would only be a band aid to lessen the symptoms. But maybe it would lessen the symptoms enough for your enjoyment. Whatever you do, make sure the problem is cured before you start putting the pedal to the wood in that thing.
Did the previous owner of the boat know anything of the condition or maybe have some input on things he had done to make the boat more driveable? Maybe he could offer some assistance in finding a solution.

At what speeds were you having the problems and what do you mean by throw the boat sideways? Please tell us exactly what its doing.

I have a 79 Hallett sport 20 with identical motor and tranny. I am completing the boat after it sunk. According to Bergerons they have done an extensive amount of work on the bottom of this boat including cutting the rudder narrower. the boat had a habit of leaning to the wrong side when turning at high speed, I have yet to get the boat out and drive it to it's potential of 85 plus, I only took it out with a milk crate for a seat to make sure there were'nt any leaks. My Hallett and your Eliminator look to have the same hull design other than I have an additional center cav plate. Before you go moving struts you should possibly get some input from Bergerons and maybe they can help you out. I know there are a few guys on here than can help. Good Luck, Matt

I went from a three blade to a two blade in a twenty foot 18 degree
v bottom v-drive and noticed less tail lift. The boat handled fine before but there was still a difference. I've heard a less diameter prop equals less tail lift and less pitch will also cause less tail lift and of course less blades. What worked well for me was a steel 11 1/2 diameter 16 inch pitch two blade.

I got to drive a friend's Hallett and he said with a three blade it would roll from side to side, this is with a two blade running in the 90's, totally badass!..

first thing is that Bob Teague said that everything has to be moved, that if it is moved forward the nose will lift more, I am going to have fun learning the art of v drive with this boat.
the lift happened around 4200rpm's 4500rpm's and threw the boat sideways violently, passenger behind driver was tossed to rear right side of motor.
thats how hard it threw him.
cav plates up
prop is a 12"x15pitch
I don't want super speed just more than what it has,and stabillity is important [hell my jet was faster[starting to sound like jordy now] any recomendations will be appreciated

Don't know what your strut angle or location is, but on my 21' Howard, moving the strut forward,(end of barrel is now 23 1/2" from transom), and changing from 9 deg. to 7 1/2 deg. made a big improvement in handling at higher speeds. Talk to Phil Bergeron, he made my strut and gave reccomendations on locating it. Also smaller dia props,(have used as small as 11 1/4x16 2 blade), help reduce tail lift. I am currently using a 11 3/4 x 16 2 blade and a 11 1/2 x 15 1/2 3 blade.

A little FYI, an easy and cheap way to move the strut forward is to change the lenght of the plates, beats plugging up everything and starting over!.. :)

leave it to Art to make the rest of us bow down!. Art I took your advice and figured out how to finish my boat on my own, very appreciative of your desire to help out on the Mandella. I suggest to anyone that if Art has an opinion on your project apply it!. My 2 cents.

I went through the same type situation with my Sanger Cruiser after installing a blower motor. I would work with prop selection/gearing before You change the placement of the V-drive/strut etc. Try going to a smaller diameter prop first. It worked for me. Just my .02
