Are there any good boat shops in or arround Bakersfield. I have a 74 hallett 22' that needs the motor rebuilt and the jet looked at. I am looking for someone that knows theses things inside and out? Any help is appreciated

theres not too many places i would bring the boat for both pump and motor work. one or the other but both? im not familiar with your area, but if you can pull it to corona i would say GS marine. Greg shoemaker has been working pumps for a long time and knows his stuff. there are alot of others out there that are good too, Jack @ MPD, but he doesnt do motor work. or you can just get a new one and if you need, i can take that 22 Hallett off your hands. :D

To my understanding Jack@MPD does a lot of work go right to Jack@MPD.

Jack doesnt do motor work. he is looking to find a shop that does both. hence the GS marine recommendation.

right next door to Jack at MPD is Dave Ebbert and DNE. Don't think you will find a better 1-2 punch than those 2 in SoCal as far as 2 companies that work hand in hand.
1 stop shop is as mentioned above, GS Marine or maybe Cyclone Marine but not sure Jim does the engine work anymore?

i didnt think Dave did basic marine rebuilds. i was under the assumption that he did the high end high HP stuff. i could be wrong. besides 74 Hallett may want to build a high HP motor and DNE would definatly be a great recommondation. coupled with Jacks pump work, that Hallet would be an awsome performer.

I don't think I could sell it anyway. My wife would kill me. I spent the summer and way to much monet rebuilding this boat from top to bottom. All thats left is getting some HP and a jet to match. thanks for your input on repair shops.

Give Tom Papp in Corona a call 951734-4606. He does great work and is very fair with his prices.

I'm assuming its a big block Ford in your boat. The guy I bought my boat from had that same 22 footer and it had a berk jet and a 460 in it. I would take the pump to MPD or GS marine and then have the motor rebuilt by Ben Alameda in Los Angeles. He specializes in big power Fords and does AMAZING work.

thanks johnwithjm,
I called tom papp, he is a good guy. After picking his brain, trying to fill mine, he agreed to pick up my pump while he is in Bakersfield for the boat drags. I thought that was "Cool" of him. He could have made me drive 3hrs to drop if off. thanks for the contact. :D
