We'll be out there!
If you want a really good view from land you can stand on the Ventura Pier. The boats race right across the end of the pier. In years past the course took them directly into the swell in front of the pier to make for some really good air time! Last year though, they reversed the course so the boats ran with the swell
You can always drop your boat in the water and watch from there too!
Heres a pic of the old Ettore boat my G-friend took from our boat, airing it out one week before they did that horrendess stuff in Florida .....

Yea, that thing was landing so hard the motors would cut out and almost stall! The Ventura race is known to be a good air course.

Iwas out there today with my Cig. I hauled a boat load (literally) of scuba divers as a safety boat for the pratice runs. If a boat flips I have to race over to it so the divers can get the drivers out. I developed an overheating problem so had to cut it short. They gave me a slip though so left the boat overnight. Will pull the thermostat first thing in the AM and see if that fixes it. If not, will ride with my buddy in his 33 Scarab as the pace boat. Pretty cool.

I think it would be easier to just give a brief boating test (IN ENGLISH ONLY! because all the signs are in english on the lake!!) to the people as they came to the lake.... Pass-you're on.... Fail-Go home!!!

A big thank you goes out to all of you who came and enjoyed the race this weekend. We sure had a blast putting on the race. Ventura which is known for its big water didn't let us down. There was big air time all weekend with boats flying as far a 200 feet before landing. The pier was the spot to be at to see the race and it looked like alot of you showed up. Next year we're looking forward to more boats and new teams. If any of you are interested in offshore racing, drop me an email and I would be happy to talk to you about how to get started. Jim
I think my view was better than the pier! I was the rescue 1 boat and got to hang out between turns one and two. Had two of the rescue divers on board and they had a pretty good time too. They couldn't believe that they were racing in those swells. One of them was pretty excited when the swell would rise up and we couldn't see anything but water! They also enjoyed the run back into the harbor. After watching everyone race you get a bit of the fever and I had to give them a full throttle run back in!
My buddy got to be the pace boat (33 Scarab/HP500's) and that was a kick for him. Another buddy with a 33 Scarab raced for the first time and came in first in his class!
It was a great weekend and I had a blast. I got to tie up with all the race boats and leave my rig in the pits. All the racers were very friendly and helpfull to all. I ended up with a simple thermostat problem which took me about ten minutes to fix but I got offered all kinds of help and parts if needed. My buddy with the pace boat lost an impeller Saturday afternoon so we put it on the trailer and he was ready to head home. I talked him into hanging out a bit and we ran into the Teague crew. He asked Bob if he knew any good boat mechanics (smart azz!) and Bob told him to bring the boat over and he sicked the whole Teague crew on it. There were about ten guys jumping at it and they had the thing changed in about 15 minutes (thanks Dave & Bob!). Not only did they change it but they didn't charge anything either!
I didn't know there were going to be so many forum members there or I would have worn my Hot Boat t-shirt!
Jim: I don't know if I met you or not but Brian and Tom were two of the most friendly and helpfull guys there. You sometimes hear bad stories about racing and the stuff that goes on but I have nothing but good things to say about the whole event. Thanks and count me in again for next year!

Thanks, Tank. Good to see you too. Sorry I couldn't spend more time with you and Kelly but had to run around a bit. Have to get you guys out in the boat sometime. I've made a few solo runs out of C.I. Harbor. I'd like to do the CI to Santa Barbara run sometime. Haven't seen Loew and Charmain in a while either. PM me with your phone number, I had to get a new phone and lost some of the numbers.

We were out there Sunday...The swell was BIG! I got some great air shots that I'll get developed and figure out how to post on here. We walked around the wet pits after the race, probably bumped into a few of you. Photoglou, we see you EVERYWHERE! Long Beach, Havasu, then Ventura...You're world wide baby! :D By the way, nice pic in the upcoming Powerboat Mag calender ;) ;)

Al, I think we're going to put a Channel Islands harbor to Santa Barbara lunch run together soon. Maybe get five to eight boats together. Louws been on the down low. Not running the Scarab too much, running the Malibu more. I'll pm you my number.
PHOTOGLOU, it's the 2005 calender. I don't have it in front of me so I don't know which month. It's your boat but Brett Becker is driving (editer of PBM) probably taken during speed trials or some other testing of the boat. Great pic though!
Angie, I guess you could say he gets around! ;) :D
