Jeff, Jerry saw the spider bite I had on my foot. I got it way after yours and mine is all closed up but left a scarred area the size of a quarter. Get some damn attention if you haven't. Think about it, you could be that one legged man in an ass kicking contest. That would mean really busy. :D

Did he get into the doctor? Jeezus, I hope so. That is a gnarly spider bite. If not, he needs to get in ASAP. Spider bites are not supposed to look like that, something is seriously wrong. If it is a brown recluse, Bigasmist, you need to get to the doctor or ER RIGHT AWAY!!!!

got bit by one of those exactly a year ago. the doctor told me if i had waited another day it could have killed me or been close. it was right in the middle of my chest next to my heart. it looked like a third tit with a crater just like that one in the above pick. it started out as a little thing that looked like a zit or an ingrown hair and a week later big. i missed RD's birthday party last year becuase of it. spent the whole weekend hooked up to an I.V.

at this point (or any other) I would not be looking for a surgeon first bigamist!!! and the blistering around the leg is also concerning. Take if from the Beaumont offical ambulance driver and paramedic, go be seen by an ER physician, they would have more knowledge of this then a GP doctor. I worst case scenerio, I would go to Loma Linda ER and have Dr. Bush take a look at it (he's the one from venom ER on Discovery Channel).

There are brown recluse in CA. A customer of mine got bit by one about two years ago. Nearly killed her. Is a b rown recluse the same as a "violin" spider?
No news on bigamist is making me very nervous. Anyone have his phone # to call and find out?

If this Dr. doesn't work out. We can use a body grinder and some bondo and fix you up as good as new. I really hope they come up with the right drugs to clear that up. I hate spiders but I am sure not as much as Bigimist. Good luck.

Yes the Brown Recluse is aka the Violin Spider, but it could also be a Black Widow they can also cause the same type of tissue damage (if not worse). However, Widow bites are usually more painful in the initial phases, so they are not as likely to go untreated and get out of hand the way Brown Recluse bites often do.
By now I hope you have found good Rx and are on the mend. I just heard about this post over the weekend while at Havasu. Give an update on how you are A.S.A.P... :frown:

As I understand it the Brown Recluse does not live in California but the Violin Spider does and it is a very close relative of the BR.
They mainly live in the High desert... If I remember my TLC channel properly..
Jeff,
That is one serious bite. Don't take any crap from the Doctors. If it feels like they are guessing on how to treat it, run to a specialist.
Let us know how it is going..

P.S. I'm not a MD, but I am familiar with the pathology here. That is a year old bite. The venom is long gone. What happend is the tissue damage to the area has damaged the circulation and caused the area of the bite to get an inadaquate blood supply, this can result in more tissue death and or infection. Bigi you will probably need to see a vascular doc and perhaps a dermatologist. But do it fast, before you need to see an orthopedist!!!

Not to be gross or anything. But the FDA has recently approved a new(age old) method for removing the necrosis. Fly Larva.. or maggots.. Specially grown to be "FDA" approved, these will eat only the dead tissue and leave the good tissue. That is if you are looking for a non-surgical alternative..
News Story.. (http://www.cnn.com/2004/HEALTH/08/02/maggot.medicine.ap/)

10-12-2004, 04:33 PM
That is some scary Sh!t..... when one doctor starts treating the area with a 9v stun gun... I begin to worry...... Seems the venom isn't easily neutralized and keeps creeping along the flesh... causing the small capilaries and vessels to constrict... thus causing the flesh to die in it's path... That one site says the electrical current causes the venon to "change"... be neutralized... there were some horrible pictures of the aftermath of a bite....

That seriously need medical attention.
I was bit by one of those bastards a few years back and it looked the same way. They had to slice it open and pack guaze in there for three weeks to extract the poison. I was on crutches for two of those weeks because they didn't want the blood moving around in that leg.
Get er taken care of now!

DUDE ! You need Loma Linda's Venom Response Unit .... They even have a TV show about Venomous Snake Bites. Your condition is serious, if it infects your blood untreated you will die.

Like I said before. It's a year old bite, so the venom is long gone. However, you do need to get it treated fast. The circulation to that area is impared and you have visable signs of infection and necrosis. The longer you wait the more tissue loss you will have. There is even a chance of septicemia or limb loss if it goes too far. Don't dick around with this Jeff, it is bad news.....

I spent the night on my boat in Newport about 6 weeks ago. I woke up with what looked like a pimple in the top of my hand, close to my thumb. It started to get bigger and developed a big blister. I squeezed it and got as much of the crap out of it as i could. After that it started to look just like the one on your leg, except mine was almost a perfect circle. It grew to about the size of a dime and then after a couple of weeks it started to go away. Now it is just a small circular scar.
I forgot to mention, the morning I noticed the bite, I had killed a big funky looking spider on the boat. It didn't really look like a violin spider, it was big and light brown.
Mine healed after a couple of weeks. If it didn't I would have definetly gone to the doctors. It would suck to lose a leg over a spider bite, or worse yet your life!

Sprinter, I got to hand it too ya for being the only voice of reason and sound practice, so far one dude says he got Anti-venom (Actually its Venon), four days after his spider bite, here I call bullshit, or you need a new physician, some moron is shocking it with a nine volt battery, (the urban legend was actually a boat motor with the victim hooked up to the spark plug to disrupt the neuotoxins flow through the bloodstream (also bullshit) truth is whoever had the "use the grinder on it was pretty close" any decent Physician can debreed that wound in order to remove as much of the necrotic tissue as possible, then treat it as any other open wound, it does not make any difference what kind of spider bit him the damage is at the cellular level and it takes along time to heal, the red inflamation around the wound is perfectly normal, antibiotics are questionable in the treatment of these wounds, we treat early onset with steroids in a progressive dose pack, seems to do the best, I see many of these and here we call em fiddlebacks, I got bit on the ass two years ago and there is no trace of a wound. as I said any decent physician can treat that wound, not just the dude with the ponytail on TV, so bust out the grinder peel it back .060 and pack it with neosporin. just my .02
