View Full Version : Fun with Barnes & Noble

I didn't intend to do this, or expect to have as much fun as I did, and I appologize to all of you ahead of time if you are offended.
I went to Barnes & Noble here in San Diego the other day to buy a new book called by Richard Miniter called "Shadow War, The Untold Story of how Bush is winning the war on terror" and I found myself in the center kiosk, looking though the new political section. Funny thing is, I would claim that it was super liberal leaning, but the fact is, there is four books that represent the conservative mindset, all four were up there although they had been "buried" and the gross majority, probably 15-20 titles were basically "Bush sucks".
Here is where the fun started. I had "Shadow War" in hand, and looked through and found "American Soldier" by Tommy Franks and "Unfit For Command" about Kerry. Then, I started noticing the reactions.
I proudly walked my selections to the back while looking for more of this stuff, and I was trying to find a book that had a picture of the 1962 Corvette in it to show Audrey who was there with me. (Dream car...) She started noticing the reactions too.
Rumour of my selections had reached the information desk, and as I was rounding the last book aisle on my way to it, I heard the little coffee clache warbling about "What kind of an idiot would vote for that moron" or something to that effect. I hung out. News of my prospective purchases was really upsetting these quasi-library dwelling hippies and they were discussing it! Too funny I thought. Audrey was cracking up too. We formulated a quick plan. We would each start asking each other audibly if we should "Get this one..." or something like that just to be able to give an audible response. Audrey, now carrying "How to talk to a liberal" visibly in hand started doing laps with me, noting that we were getting essentially followed by a couple different people, including a moron wearing a Kerry button BTW (Not a worker). He followed us, acting interested for your information into the Bonsai gardening isle. Too funny...
Then, we were within a couple of yards of a B&N worker who wasn't in the original group of hens, but obviously a lib from her demeanor and we decided to illicit a reaction from her. Audrey asked me if we should get "American Soldier" or "Unfit for Command". I replied, now that we had her attention, with "I would get Unfit for Command because it may help the Swift boat vets fund more commercials showing what a jackass Kerry is... " She was acting uninterested initialy, but as I threw the punchline she couldn't help but react with the most horrified look you have ever seen for a second, then head down, back to her work. Too funny.
Back into the main area after letting these peeps follow us and listen to our moderate conservative claptrap for a while, we started in earnest to make our selections. I am not kidding, there was people acting disinterested all around us, the same group of people that have been following us but now just within earshot, and not even bothering to open books. So obvious. In any case, we were running our mouths about which books we could buy that would help the Bush campaign the most, or reward conservative mindset the most and basically just appearing in disbelief that someone could have so little of a grip on reality as to vote for Kerry, or even further how much of a three year old mentality it must take to even utter the words "Anyone but Bush". Really, Hitler? Moby? Siegfried or Roy? C'mon.. anybody?
Then we joked about Jon Stuarts book "America" and how it is on the best seller list and how while misguided, at least Jon can poke fun at both sides.
All in all, while I walked out over $100 light, I believe I totally disgusted every granola in the place. It was too funny.
I highly recommend this. It was cathartic.

Hey Froggy, that's a funny story but not at all surprising to me. You find left wing wackos everywhere especially hanging out in bookstores and at schools.
It's a good thing they didn't know what you drove up in or they would've sent out their "hit squad" and keyed your car. Liberals may be against "Bush's war" but they sure aren't against messing up a non-liberal's property.

OMG Wes,
That is some funny chit! :D
Denise (my Mrs.) bought the Ann Coulter book, How to talk to a Liberal, (if you must) for me last week. She said the folks at our local B&N treated her like shi* at the check out. Next time you go shopping there, let me know. I could use a good laugh. :D
Thanks for the post. :D

My town is very conservative and our local democrats held a rally that they marched from business depot to a local park. Only about thirty people attended. The radio accidently said Home Depot and they received threats of boycott if they allowed the dems use of their parking lot. Seldom do I get to have fun with libs, unless I'm traveling to Seattle, LA, San Diego, Fran, and Canada. So the groups walking (marching) to the park thinned out alot. 5 women that passed me had the flag on polls, but the flags were wrapped up, yet their Kerry signs proudly held up high. I said: "a conservative would also proudly show the American flag and that's the key differance". They just looked at me puzzled. I deal with alot of liberal places because one of the companies I'm invovled with makes an organic product. I often un-announced check our competitors pricing, our stock, etcetera, but not tell the store I'm there. Whole Foods is my favorite because they are very liberal and if you buy something the cashier gives you plastic they appoligize. Since I like to argue with and annoy libs, I make little remarks. "I preffer plastic because I'm pro-global warming, extend the business cycle for a more productive Alaska oil drilling program". Even joking like this gets them looking at you like your "evil". I Lovitt!

Froggy,
Way to funny yet all to typical of the Barnes and Noble crowd. Recently my wife and went to the local B and N for a chance for my wife to redeem her gift coupon there for the junk romance novels she reads so frequently. Just coincedently I wore my Bush Cheney 04 tshirt to Barnes and Noble with my wife. Not realizing I had it on I walked the store and MAN did I cause a stir. Sales people frowned at me and openly a Starbucks drinking muffin eating hippie walked up to me and asked me "ARE YOU SERIOUS?"
Intending to offend I replied "Nuke the Whales!" She gasped and flipped me off! she shouted if I didnt have anything nice to say I should just shut up! After she told me to go to hell while giving me the finger!
Way to go Froggy............I bet you had a good time as well! Keep'em off balance the libs hate people like you!

Looks like Jeff and I just found a new form of Friday night entertainment! Thanks, Froggy. You should try the horror of visiting a university during election time. The professors are worse than the students! I like to sit in the computer lab and check out conservative web sites and look at all of the T-shirts/bumper stickers and LMAO to get the attention of neighboring ignorant, non-taxpaying students. I shouldn't say ignorant, just ignorant in their blind following of the professors biased rhetoric. Once they start making money and have to give 40% of it away, they'll change their minds.

These guys take a late model Vette like mine and put one of these bodies on it. Too sick. I figure as long as it is made of fiberglass... I have no problem spending money on it! In addition, they are using a lot of the same production methods and materials that we are in the Revolution.

The typical liberal slant where you only put forth a portion of the statement.
When I read Froggy's story it seemed to me to say that they were acting disinterested so as to not attract the attention to themselves as they struggled to get closer to listen and observe what these two conservative whackos were doing in a bookstore buying such filth.
Why don't you go back to your monkey and continue the spankings.

Now, now. Just because you spank your monkey you can't go assuming everybody else does too. Perhaps they were really disinterested and Girlystyle simply assumes everyone is interested in what he and his wife are doing. Gee, if these people were really all that interested maybe they would have takend as many of the conservative books as possible and hidden them elsewhere in the store. Nope. Guess they didn't do that. Or perhaps the liberal staff would have refused to put them out. No, guess that didn't happen either. Gee, maybe everyone realizes there are whacko conservatives like Girlystyle out there and find it amusing when they act strange in public by trying to attract attention to themselves because of their right wing political views. Perhaps nobody really cares if they buy that book. My brother is a history major and has bought Mein Kampf in a bookstore. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have much problem buying Chairman Mao's little red book if you wanted one. English language version. Koran. Got it. Talmud. Yep. In fact, they pretty much can get anything you want. Regardless of how bizarre your political views may be. Like Girlystyle.

kaluamanchild would be interesting if he wasn't such a repetitive loser. He can quote the party line very well, but no intelligent or resonable person would espouse such vitrolic babble. It is one thing to argue issues, but the party attack machine can't get past right wing fanatic, moron, war mongering puppet, anti-UN, and resister of the world opinion poll. The liberal cause is dying and they cannot find solid footing. Even when they had a skilled charismatic pervert in charge, they could not gain the people's hearts.
The liberals fail to realize the American mind. It is the longest surviving democracy that has not experienced a socialist government. Socialism nearly destroyed Great Britain until Margaret Thatcher turns things around in the 80's. Now it is growing faster than Germany as a world business power and London is second only to the Wall Street as a financial hub.
We spend less on taxes and have more individual control than any other major industrial nation. We have a healthy distrust of government and little inclination to allow a bureacracy run our lives.

The majority of people in this country are NOT republican. FACT. Look it up.
I guess that makes the majority of people in this country Un-American then, huh? Or perhaps it's the lack of tolerance and ability to engage in a serious and logical debate about politics, the economy and items such as that which will result in the republican party NEVER becoming a majority of America.

Start checking your facts. NOT republican is the correct answer. Not Democrat either. DS doesn't have brains to disassociate liberals from rank and file Democrats who often vote Republican. I am a registered Democrat, as has been my whole family for generations. On the state level, we Oklahomans tend to vote Democrat, but will vote Republican at the national level. This is because there is a attitude different in the state level officers. We have several politicians who changed affiliation when moving to the national offices.

I won't dispute your facts Seadog and since I don't live in Oklahoma I have little current interest in doing research into that issue.
