My computer at home gets them all the time. Seems nothing helps. I even had to dump everything and reinstall windows. That worked for about a day.

Maybe I wrote that wrong. I meant that I wasn't getting pop ups before ,but since I installed the most recent Microsoft update, I've been getting popups everywhere...even here.

I've built my last few computer myself and found the best way to keep them running well comes at the cost of only $49.95! That's what it costs for the latest Mcafee Virus Scan. I'm now running 9.0 on all mine now and they're very happy!! Even after just a few weeks of internet activity you'd be surprised at how fast a system can get beat up! I did a virus scan on one that should have been REALLY clean and found 34 Trojan style viruses!!! Once Mcafee found them and removed them the system was like brand new again!! I'd also suggest the new version of the pop-up blocker and spam mail blocker. I was getting over 100 BS emails daily and the program removed them all !!!
I have no affiliation with the company, just a happy customer!
P.S If you run AOL your system will suck A SS !!! Take it from a computer geek, AOL is a system killer!! They have full access to you system and when they send their "Updates" (which come usally weekly!) they just blast their stuff onto you hard drive and screw all you other programs!!

OK....I'm going to hijack my own thread. WTF do you do when you get a trojan virus that can't be cleaned or deleted or quarantined? Am I screwed or is it an (hopefully) easy fix?
And yes, in case you're wondering, it's probably from the damn porn sites.

heres what you should do with it . esp. if it has a Intel processor because intel goes with Microsnot like peanutbutter and jelly.
first install Windoze XP (either the home version or the pro doesn't matter they both suck, then go to the microsnot update utility and let it download as many useless Windoze service packs and various enhancement bugware as it's little processor desires , when your finished with that get yourself a copy of the latest and greatest chock full O resource hoggin edition of hey oh hell and load it up once your done with that get you sum spyware software and load it up hell load up two or three of em cause we all know more it better especially when it comes to protection . OK dont get excited , we arent finished yet .
next you need to do this now dont skip this step because its a very important step in completeing our project . you need to dial up to the internet for a couple of your free 2055 hours with your hey oh hell internet software because you need to download as many computer performance enhancements as you can find . it's ok to get the freeware , free is good
or better yet hit a few Warez sites they have all the good stuff.
OK we're almost finished !
Now that you have your Intel based Microsnot mean machine all loaded up your ready for the final step .
unhook the computer from everything , carry it outside, and throw that phucker behind the wheel of your boat trailer and use it for a wheel chock
now go buy yourself an amd based computer and load Linux on it .ENJOY !
Have A Nice Day
C.gonnaget it for that one tooT.

i use 3 difrent programs to cure the problem first install and external firewall program like norton internet security and then get a program called spybots and then a program calles the cleaner install them all run all the updates and then run them and wala no more bs pop-ups..if you like pm me and ill hook ya up with the programs...
just for all you skeptics out there norton internet security in one of the few firewalls I CANT HACK..just a program alone cant stop pop-ups you need to gat all the spybots and trojans out of your system for anything to be efective and a virus scan alone cannot do that..and the ones that claim to do so hog all your memory and posibly your b/w..

And yes, in case you're wondering, it's probably from the damn porn sites.
What version virus scan do you have? It should be deletable (is that a word?) Anyways, I have the 2005 9.0 version if you want to try it. I'm just over the hill in Granada Hills. You can pick it up, or I can mail it over??
If the virus has etched itself in the hard drive you may just wanna get a new hard drive and a program called Ghost. Ghost will create a mirror image of you current hard drive on the new one without (hopefully) transfering the virus over. Then trash the old drive and run the new one. Drives are really cheap so thats a cheap fix...$100 tops!
As for the porn sites, oh ya those babies are loaded with funk!! But you gotta take the bad with the Good !! :D :D A good firewall will also help you avoid those hidden viruses coming in as you surf too. A good free on is called Zone Alarm. It's a free download and is pretty easy to set up and run. That will stop a good number of those silent killers that get in through open ports while your online.

I have McAfee but I'm not sure what version. I guess it's partly my fault for letting my firewall subscription expire. I'll check it out when I get home but thks for the help. Damn those porn sites but you gotta love them. By the way, don't tell my wife that I look at those, I think she gets jealous.

It's not that I dont like it I despise the way they operate
(Microsoft as a whole) Windooze has it's place and it definately has it's usefull aspects like gaming nobody does solitare like Microsnot :D J/K
Rev Williams ,
I have never seen a virus "etch" itself to a drive , theres nothing that will survive a low level recertification format. much less a standard file system format . once the start block is re written the rest of the drive has no structure . if you have a link to any info on this occuring please post it . anyhoo I agree drives are getting cheap I just bought a
Maxtor 200gig 7200rpm 8Mb cache' for 99bucks at Staples. !
