My Buddy From The Marina Has A 1984(?) Formula 277. He's Thinking Of Re-powering W/ Horizon 6.2l Injected Small Blocks/bravos. The Question Is He Is Worried This Boat Will Become Un-stable With All The Increased Horse Power And Speed (around 80 Mph)? Who Out There Has The Simular Boat That Does These Speeds And Is It Pretty Stable? He's Also Thinking Of Blowers After The 1 St Season (pro Chargers). Thanks A Lot For The Input...bill.

I would go with the Whipple Intercooled system over the Pro-Charger.

I Love Whipple My Self, But Is That Hull(actually An 1987) Going To Do Weird Things With A Lot More Ponies Than Stock?

I have a Mirage 257 with twin 6.2 MPI's 640 HP total. Plenty of power moving even a heavy boat like the 27 formula. The formula hull is similar to the mirage hull and if it's not trimmed properly bow steer would make it feel unstable at high speeds ,ie; over 60's . My boat saw 84MPH with 383 strokers with S/C . http://www3.telus.net/spectrasonly/mirage.nordic.jpg

BTW , get external steering and K planes for high speeds. Dana ,Latham, Marine Machine has them .http://www3.telus.net/spectrasonly/mirage%20transom.bmp

Appreciate The Input But Now My Buddy Is Thinking Of Doing A Mild(1 Engine New) Build, And Look For A Bigger Boat (35' Or So With Bravos) Mostly Running In Boston Harbor. It Can Really Pound You!). Do Ya Have A Favorite Hull About That Lenght? Any Exceptional Cat Hulls?
Ever Hear Of A Jet Powered Cat Hull? Thanks Again...bill.

Buddy of mine had a 27 Mirage and he's building 2 1000HP motors for his 43 Scarab  .Bigger the better for the rough stuff. While the small boat like mine handles pretty big waves ,the rule of thumb for big water is 40' to bridge huge waves at speed [ big lakes like Okanagan here in b.c have ocean size waves as well :rollside: ]. The person who had my boat previously [with 383 strokers supercharged] has a 35' Nordic with 900HP s/c motors now :D .He actually said that the 257 Mirage was one of the best rough water boat he had. I find most people are happy with the 26-30' size boats.
