I have been cleaning up my hard drive, and found this shot of me from (gulp) 20 years ago. This car was a friggin' BEAST! 67 Shelby GT500, built 428, 4 sp toploader. Spin the tires any gear, any speed with just a little right foot. Kinda unnerving on the freeway at 70 mph....

I had a 71 ElCamino that was totaly out of control !!! I blacked everything out. Bumpers, trim, handles, lights Everything!! That SOB would pull all the way to 8000rpm then I'd shift out and and get a neck snapping chirp off the tires !!!
I just wish I knew how to do brakes back then, cause I went through far too many lights cause I couldn't stop in time with my s hity a$$ brakes
I bought that thing for $1300 and sold it for $3200 to a guy named Buck !! :D

That was my favorite. Trust me, I know EXACTLY what they'd be worth now. This shot was a couple years later. 68 GT500 (on the right) 428, c6.... disappointing car. I was used to the toploader, and an auto was boring. On the left is my favorite non-Shelby. 67 C code all original (except for the 16's and roller rockers) with only 49k on it when I bought it from a little old blue haired whino lady :D

I love Challengers. My old racing partner had a 70 440 sixpack we raced at The County. That was an animal!
After my black, then white car stages, I managed to actually build one in color. Still have this one, and Shelley will probably bury me in it.

I loved the 69-73 mopars, but could never get past one thing. The doors were SO HEAVY it was like swinging a friggin safe door! Now Shelley says I don't have to build her 70 1/2 RS Camaro, she'd be happy with a Challenger or 'Cuda. I told her I bought the roadster for her, but she doesn't believe me..... :D

Had to change the door pins too .The doors were extremely long and heavy. My kid is mustang crazy now .Lot of my friends had 60's fastbacks and a buddy is restoring a 66 or 7 GT 500 and my kid wants to put his name on it , if its ever going for sale ;)

Damn! Now that is a nice ride. I never had one of those - but I sure wanted one.
I gotta say you must be kicking yourself now along with JBB. I know I am. I cant find a muscle car in bad shape nowadays for a good price. What I did have was....
70 Boss 302
68 GTO 400/4 speed
70 GTO 400/auto
69 Z28 DZ302
70 Road Runner 400/auto
and the king of my tire burners 70 Chevelle SS454 LS6 4 speed. That was one bad mofo.

I had (2) cars I should have kept:
1/ 1965 Mustang Hardtop my dad ordered special in April of '64 & received it in November '64. Get this: It had a 289, automatic trans, pony interior with a 'bench front seat' & air conditioning. Never seen one equipped like it since. Kept it for two years & sold it for $750 when I got out of college.
2/ 1970 Opel GT - nothing special but it was good looking & handled well. Pretty reliable too.

I've got a 72 Chevy short bed, 72K original miles, 307 3 speed on the column. Fully restored a few years ago, kept it al original except the interior color. You should see the looks on my friends faces when I shift that thing, most people my age have never even seen a 3 on the tree.

At the start of the Korean War in 1950, I bought some really nice 40 Fords for a steal, $25 to $50. When I finally got drafted in '54 I needed a runner to go between Burbank and Fort Ord on the week-ends and bought a red '46 Ford convertable for $75.00. Wish I had them all today...

I did pass up a 66 Mustang fastback when my dum bass was about 18. 289 4 barrel, pony interior, rally pack, factory air, duel exhaust through the rear valance, it ran too. The price, $200. I didn't buy it, I like an idiot bought a set of Cragar SS's for my Skylark :hammerhea

The one that got away was when I was 16. Cruisin' down Tustin Ave in Orange, and on the corner of a gas station (there were stations on EVERY corner back then) was 58 vette. Stopped in, talked to the guy and asked him how much he wanted. $800. Might as well have been $800,000! Even asked my parents to float me the money. That vette never came home with me......

'67 Ford Galaxie 500 four door (front wing windows with cranks!)
390 w/C6 tranny, headers, big'ol glasspacks, loud ass stereo, and surf racks. Trunk was so big we fit 3 boards in and could shut it. With the racks, that made for 7 friends piling in and heading to malibu or ventura for a session. Flying solo, damn thing would piss off the late model mustang GT owners in '88 & '89 that saw what my tail lights looked like. :jawdrop: :D

In the order of "I wish I didn't sell it":
1. 65 GTO TriPower 4spd yellow/black int, console, buckets. Stupid-stupid-stupid :hammerhea . It was cherry. I know, I know. I read Hemmings.
2. Lotus Europa TwinCam John Player Spl #97. A mouthful. Ran like it wuz on rails- sneeze factor would put you in the ditch if you weren't careful. Weighed about 2000# and was 47" tall. Girlfriend (now wife) thought it was cool to drive under semi-trailers one after the other in the RJ Reynolds parking lot. So did the security guard... I'd work on it all day Saturday, go cruising Saturday night. Maybe you'd get home, maybe not. The ultimate factory-built kit car. Had to insure it with Lloyds...nobody else would touch it (or me either, at the time :D )
3. 1962 Jag MkII 3.8 sedan. 4spd w/overdrive and an XK-E engine w/3 SU's. Sucker would fly, but looked oh so stately and innocent sittin' in the yard. It would probably run as fast as an E-type, if it wasn't pushing so much air. Picnic tables and a positive ground elec system. Sold it to a crazy pathologist in Florida that I swore would kill himself in it. Who knows...
I don't have many pictures of these things- I need to fire up the scanner one night.

Over the years I fixed it up and restored it. It's probably worth over $12000 or more today. 350 HP with 700R4 automatic trans. No problems going over 100 mph in this baby. Wouldn't give it up for the world. Still drive it as my daily driver everyday

My 72 Landcruiser with the Chevy 355 and the turbo 350 auto in it, that thing would pull stumps out like nothing, tore down a few buildings down out in Palmdale, didn't have much of a lift, longer shackles and some Rancho shocks, Warn winch with the wired remote, had a lot of fun with that thing, but was young and stupid traded it for another car, 67 1/2 Mustang w the hi-po 289 , another car i wish i still had. My turbo 944 that was a fun car..... ahh the good ole days. MVG

Nice car, but you need to do something about that hood/fender joint. :D
Seriously, I would love to have one of those. Very nice.
I've had some kickass cars, but the one I'd really like to have was so quirky it was cool. In 1973 I bought a '57 Fury from a school teacher with money troubles. It was bright red with a white top, had a nice tuck and roll interior, Torq Thrust D's, and Goodyear Polyglas tires.
Under the hood? A 392 Hemi and a Torqueflite. It had a 4.11 posi rear end.
First night I had it I raced a buddy that had a new '73 Road Runner and blew him away. He couldn't believe it, especially since he and my buddies had spent around 30 minutes laughing at me and the car.
Now the painful part:
I paid $125.00 for it.
:hammerhea :hammerhea

Probably the coolest cruiser I had was a 57 Fairlane 500, 312 (with an AFB stock!), and freeway fliers. Headed down the 405 one night with 3 others in the car a t-bucket pulled up and wanted to play. Kicked his ass up ine side and down the other. That car was MADE for top end, and I never DID find out what it topped out at.
Got a 65 Impala 327 fact air for $200. Cleaned it up and turned it.
