View Full Version : Solid roller lifters

I am considering changing to a solid roller cam for my flattie, pretty much just a lake hot-rod 440 BBC, it will see everything from 6800 rpm bursts to no wake zone putting. What I'm not clear on is which lifters would be right for me, is it required to get the grooved lifters such as Comp Endure-X (P/N 866-16) or would the standard non-grooved units (P/N 819-16) be just fine, and save me some money.

866-16 for anything that idles. If no prolonged idleing then the others will do fine.

Ditto. Pressure pin oiling is a must for low RPM.
IMO the Crower Severe dutys are the chit. 66281 (I think)

I did a little digging, following is what I found for pin oiling roller lifters (for anyone else who's shopping these). The Crower system has a .024 oil metering hole directed towards the roller pin, they call this system "HIPPO", the "H" added to their part number adds this oiling feature, seems it may offer better oil direction than Comps oil groove, who knows.
Crower std duty
66201H-16 ($463.69 summit)
Crower severe duty (hi cyl pres and extreme rpm)
66291H-16 ($579.99 summit)
Comp Endure-X
866-16 ($482.39 summit)

They might be a little more but there is never too much over kill. Stronger better oilling designed for high rpm and very high spring presure. This all equates to longer life. Buy once and cry less !!!!

No all we have done is bury that 120 Gaffrig GPS speedo. One time it wrapped around to 130 ish. Right now it is kind of jacked up. It wiggs out at about 110 or so
The owner only takes it out a hand full of times per month and has not felt the need to borrow a hand held GPS
We are pretty sure it will go 130 no problem. In addition it has always had the 7 lb pulleys on it. ( except for once) It will go 12 lbs and still run on pump gas.

That video is xtreme. I can see that boat's haulin ass...a lot more than 100. :2purples: Great success, I'd say. Good job.

Morels lifters are simply the best made. Solid's run you about $475 a set. If they can solve Austin Coyles problems in top fuel, then designing and manufacturing something for a 800HP BBC is no problem.

Comp Cams now sells Morel lifters...don't know if they have anything except their 1" dia. TF lifter, though. The Comp, Crower, or Isky will give you everything you'll ever need in a roller lifter.

Morel supplies only manufacturing companies and professional race teams. They have been in the lifter business since the mid '80's when they were asked by Mclaren to mfg a lifter for the Buick engines for Indy. It is the only lifter I supply with my cams when asked.
Comp sells only the fuel lifter because it is so revolutionary. Top teams went from using 1 set every 2 passes to running a set for an entire season. Those run about $1800 a set.

The Morel TF ex lifter has an extra roller in it, above the first. When a TF motor is trying to open the ex valve, it's trying to open it against more cyl pressure than you could possibly imagine. That's where most TF valve train failures occur. It's brutal!

I am giving the Isky Red Zone solids a try. They have pressurized oiling of the shaft / needles. I ran Comp and one failed at 35 hrs. No biggie since I caught it checking lash. I have heard of a lot of good things about Crower.

Crower is pretty much the king of the hill in my book. For what ever that's worth. :sleeping:

I have to agree, I've run Crower stuff since the early 80's and yet to have a failure!.. :cool:
