<--------Hey I resemble that!
Nice deal. Did you redo the deck?

E.J.
11-01-2004, 07:26 PM
Yes all new deck. This is my buddy jack pulling the top layer of fiberglass off the old mahogany. The boat was a wood decker that went bad so they tryed to glass over that..and you guessed it that went bad also. So we tore it all offhttp://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/500/2074Dsc04438.jpg

EJ, that is lovely. It's great to see this type of craftsmanship being kept alive. And it's a treat to see the photos before and after. Makes me appreciate what work went into a wood deck, since very few of them made it to the East Coast, apparently. My LP's both are all 'glass, but the newer one does have a balsa floor. If I keep the older one, I'll put balsa in it, too. Hey! Maybe a wood deck!? Now THAT would be ambitious...

Did you pull the deck completely off? Or veneer the old ply?

E.J.
11-03-2004, 07:53 PM
We pulled every thing down to the sub deck. The old mahogany was shot from years of neglect
This pic shows an 1/8 in layer of the old mahogany that we did end up taking off. We also ended up replacing all of the mid deck

I'm about to do this to mine and I was about to pull the WHOLE deck off. Now I wonder if that may be too far? What did you use to fair in the rise on the deck?

Coolchange,
Ok this pic shows the sub deck exposed and the outer gunnel rails removed. If your boat is not to bad then by all means take off only the top layer or two. Just enough to fit the hight of your new sheet with just a little sandin room at the rails. The roll up the deck was done using a belly strap and bottle jack with a few props off the rafters for stubborn spots
